The winners of the Student 2019 award from the University of Murcia are received by the Rector José Luján (25/11/2019)

Earlier this afternoon, the winners of the Student Award of the year 2019 in which it was their first call were received in the Convalescence building by Rector José Luján.

The Student of the Year awards, instituted by the Student Council of the University of Murcia, seek to distinguish singular and outstanding actions carried out by students of this University, individually or collectively, in which they have demonstrated outstanding values ​​of social commitment and ethical, performance or performance, which contribute to improve and enhance the institution.

At the reception, the rector congratulated the winners and commended his work while Diego García Ayuso, UMU Student Coordinator was also present, as well as Borja Moreno Buendía, Irene Martínez Forte and José Miguel Rojo Martínez, President, Vice President and Secretary respectively of the Student Council of the University of Murcia.

Cooperation in Somalia

The winner in his Individual Modality has been Luis Ordóñez, a graduate student of the Faculty of Optics of the University of Murcia, collaborator of the Blue Association in Action in the Development Cooperation campaign developed in Somalia, in which he has accompanied a team composed of nurses, ophthalmologists, optometrists, opticians and pediatricians, who managed to perform around 2,700 consultations, from which about 250 were referred to surgery to be operated on cataracts or glaucoma among other issues.

A total of 1500 prescription glasses and 1750 sunglasses were donated in the campaign.

The glasses came largely from the University of Murcia, having commissioned the faculty of Optics and Optometry of assembly and classification, and another part came from the stock of Blue in action.

The winners of the prize in its collective modality have been Rosa Sánchez López, María Isabel Molina Campuzano, Sergio Rubio Miranda, Cristina Guirao Pallarés and Juan Carlos Manzanares Ruiz, rdyufisnyrd fr htsfo and master of the University of Murcia, all of them volunteers last year in the archaeological site of San Esteban, a work in which they were able to know first-hand how the archaeologist's work is, learning from materials and excavation methods in which they define as a medieval suburb of enormous importance for the city of Murcia.

The winners also had the opportunity to work in the archeology laboratory, all in the hands of Professor Alejandro Eiroa.
