During the event, the manifesto for the eradication of gender violence of the Network of Gender Equality Units for University Excellence (RUIGEU) has been publicly read

The University of Murcia, through the Unit for Equality between Women and Men, has presented on Monday the awards of the 'II Contest of tweets against Gender Violence', coinciding with the celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women.

During the event, which took place in the gallery of rectors of the Convalescence building, the following awards were given:

First prize: María Dolores Guillamón López, professor of the Department of Financial Economics and Accounting of the UMU, for the tweet 'Take the first step, we will take the rest against gender violence'.

First second prize: Juan Pedro Martínez Ramón, professor in the Department of Evolutionary Psychology and Education, for the tweet 'Bet on equality and you will always win.

It's not a game.

UMU against gender violence '.

Second second prize: Antonio Palomino Ruiz, a student of the Primary Education degree, for the tweet 'Not one more blow, not one less smile.

We all add '.

After the awards ceremony, representatives of students, administration and services staff and teaching and research staff of the University of Murcia have proceeded to the public reading of the manifesto for the eradication of gender violence of the Network of Equality Units of Gender of the Spanish Universities for University Excellence (RUIGEU).

Carmen Sánchez Trigueros, director of the Unit for Equality between Women and Men, said that the 25N is not a day of celebration, but a day of vindication and support for all victims of sexist violence, both women and children and girls

"The University of Murcia cannot remain oblivious to this protest in the face of one of the most important problems that plague our society and it is necessary that we commit ourselves to work against violence against women," he added.

"Sadly, the 51 women killed because of sexist violence so far this year, a new victim is added today in Tenerife," he concluded.

Rector Luján, on the other hand, has stated that, in the face of the advances of our society, there are aspects such as macho violence in which "we continue in the time of the caverns; something totally reprehensible and that has no excuse."

Luján has stressed that you have to go out, denounce and put all the means as an institution dedicated to teaching and research to end this social scourge and say "enough is enough".

More acts for the 25N

The University Social Center (CSU) has been the stage where an expression mural against gender violence was placed on Monday, in which attendees participate from 11 am to 3 pm.

Two large canvases with the names of all women killed by gender-based violence in 2019 have also been placed in the CSU and law school.

On the other hand, the Gender Unit of the Applied Psychology Service has placed containers against gender violence under the slogan 'Deposit lived, observed gender violence' here.

To conclude, from November 18 to December 2, the façade of the Rector's Office and the faculty of Law will be illuminated in violet.
