Murcia vindicates with music, theater and poetry the eradication of violence against women (25/11/2019)

For the first time, the award 'Murcia in Equality' has been awarded to a victim who was attended by the municipal team of Attention to Violence against Women and overcame her situation, representing all those women who have received the support of this service.

So far this year, the Attention to Violence against Women (EMAVI) team of the City of Murcia has treated more than 260 victims of gender violence.

Murcia vindicates with music, theater and poetry the eradication of gender violence, in an institutional act that the City Council celebrates every year in the Plenary Hall to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and that this year celebrates its 20th edition.

"Today we record our social commitment to this fight, against any act that threatens the dignity of women, defending a fair and equal society," said the mayor of Murcia during the event, who added "hopefully, we hope that in In the near future there is no reason to commemorate November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. â€

Music and lyrics were also protagonists of this act, since the event was opened by a cello musical performance, by the performer Inés de Juan Periago, who currently collaborates with the National Orchestra of Spain, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National of Catalonia and the Symphony Orchestra of the Region of Murcia.

He performed a work by JS Bach and the Song of the Birds.

The Councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres also spoke.

Subsequently, a poetry recital was held accompanied by live guitar, composed of the students of the Higher Center for Southern European Training (CESUR), who closed the event with a theatrical performance in La Glorieta.

In this final performance participated more than 100 students of the center.

The award 'Murcia in Equality 2019' celebrates its twentieth edition

This institutional event celebrates its twentieth edition, in which for the first time the prize 'Murcia in Equality' has been awarded to a victim of gender violence that was attended by the municipal team of Attention to Violence against Women (EMAVI) and who has been able to overcome this situation, representing all those women who have received the support of this service.

The distinction was collected by Murcia City Council techniques, preserving the identity of the victim.

Since 1999, this award has been given to those entities and people who collaborate and act to prevent gender violence in the municipality of Murcia.

20 more victims compared to 2018

So far this year, the City Council has treated 266 victims of gender violence, 20 more than in 2018. Of the total, 5 were minors and another nine, over 65 years.

Also, 28 suffered some type of disability.

From the municipal team of Attention to Violence against Women (EMAVI), the Consistory offers advice on available rights and resources, psychological support, legal guidance, help to access employment and protection for victims and their children, and may request to be hosted in one of the four homes that the City Council reserves for this service.

Of the women who have attended EMAVI this year, 65% were Spanish and 35% were foreigners, from 25 different nationalities.

In addition, in 30% of the cases they had a dependent child, and in 53% of the cases the aggressor was the victim's former partner.

This service, which was launched in 1986, has four social educators, a social worker, two psychologists, a legal advisor and a coordinator, who provide direct and personalized attention to the victims so that they can rebuild their self-esteem and identity, increase his own decision-making ability and his will, recover from the aftermath and strengthen his abilities.
