The City Council will allocate the oil obtained from the collection of olives from the municipal olive trees for charitable purposes (22/11/2019)

The Department of Urban Development, through its Parks and Gardens Service, estimates that between 30,000 and 40,000 kilos of olive will be collected, which will involve approximately 8,000 liters of oil.

These tasks are also carried out to prevent neighbors from slipping or tripping when passing near the specimens.

"The fruit that is collected from this campaign will be pressed and will be taken to the mill to obtain oil that will be distributed to food banks and charities," said the councilor.

The City of Murcia is carrying out its campaign to collect olives from the municipal olive trees located in the parks, gardens and medians of the municipality of Murcia.

The Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, has visited today these tasks that are being carried out in Pintor Almela Costa Street, in the Infante neighborhood.

Specifically, these tasks are being developed in more than 1,600 olive trees suitable for oil production.

The Department, through the Parks and Gardens Service, estimates that between 30,000 and 40,000 kilos of olive will be collected, which will involve approximately 8,000 liters of oil.

“The fruit that is collected from this campaign is going to be pressed and it will be taken to the mill to obtain oil that will be distributed to food banks and charities,†said the councilor.

These works are also carried out to prevent neighbors from slipping or stumbling when passing near the specimens located in the green areas of the municipality, both in the urban area and in districts.

For the collection a blanket or cloth is placed under the olive tree, after which the gardeners use an olive vareador that allows, in a few minutes, that all fall on the fabric.

Once all the fruits have been collected, the employees transfer them to an oil mill where they will be transformed into oil that will later be delivered to charities.

Two teams of the STV / Actúa concessionary company are responsible for carrying out these tasks over a month.
