Councilwoman Mercedes Bernabé takes part in the VII Conference on Citizen Participation, Transparency and Citizen Empowerment, organized by the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Murcia (FAV Murcia), which are held this afternoon at the García Alix Municipal Center in the San Antolín neighborhood

The Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, today inaugurated the VII Conference on Citizen Participation, Transparency and Citizen Empowerment, organized by the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Murcia (FAV Murcia), which are held at the García Alix Municipal Center , in the neighborhood of San Antolín.

The mayor has intervened with a presentation on 'Citizen Participation, transforming Murcia together', where she has developed this concept and has shown several of the examples that are being carried out from the City Council, such as the Murcia Brand project, the Murcia City Strategy 2020 and the Urban DNA.

“Citizens increasingly demand to participate in the decision-making processes in the areas that affect them and, therefore, it is important to listen to them and share their environment with actions that promote cooperation and in turn contribute to the improvement of their neighborhood â€, highlights the mayor.

The Murcia Brand project collects data from the research process on the values and vision of national and international projection of the municipality.

“More than 1,200 Murcia have already participated in this study through direct surveys, in addition to the Technical Conference that was held with professionals in the sector,†explains Mercedes Bernabé.

Another example of citizen participation is the 2020 City Strategy, the result of a process of reflection of the inhabitants of the city on their priorities, problems, territorial and economic development models.

It also highlights as an example of participation the Urban DNA project, which is being developed in El Carmen, Santa Eulalia and La Paz, an initiative of the City Council to bring public resources to the service of the real needs of the neighbors.

It should also be noted the Urbact Interactive Cities project, with which the Murcian council has been awarded with a European quality seal.

In short, "there are several examples of success we have in this City Council to confirm that participation is present and future and, therefore, we will try to encourage it to make Murcia better and more transparent," concludes the councilor.
