Trade and Road Cleaning inform the supply places about the installation of the fifth organic collection container (21/11/2019)

The councilors responsible for Markets and Street Cleaning, Juan Fernando Hernández, and Rebeca Pérez, respectively, have held a meeting with the presidents of the eight municipal supply spaces to study the best formula for the installation of the fifth brown container or container destined to Organic waste collection.

"From the Department of Markets we seek the commitment of the sellers of the eight supply places to continue improving the recycling that is carried out around this activity," said its head Juan Fernando Hernández.

For her part, the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has stressed that "we focus our efforts on asking the entire society to help Murcia be a pioneer in waste recycling. This fifth container is a new way of recycling that will only work if Murcians make an effort more in their private homes, shops and establishments for the benefit of the environment. "

Valuewaste project, pilot experience in Murcia

The implementation of the fifth container in the supply places would be framed within the European Valuewaste project, an initiative that began to be developed as a pilot experience in Murcia last year, whose objective is to maximize the recovery of resources from organic waste generated in the cities.

La Fleet and more than 100 establishments

In addition to the supply places, the City of Murcia joins the European project by extending this selective collection to the neighborhood of La Flota and more than a hundred restaurants and bars that, little by little, will also be added.

This project, which has 17 partners, including the City Council of Murcia and the City of Kalundborg, in Denmark, a municipality where this project is also being developed on a pilot basis, proposes solutions to problems such as the management of bio-waste generated in the cities, as well as the search for alternative sources for human and animal food.

The Councilor for Markets has highlighted "the need to make firm commitments to the environment and the circular economy."

He has also valued "the role of the European Valuewaste project to place Murcia at the height of other European cities that are referenced in sustainability and technological innovation".
