Murcia elected Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020 (20/11/2019)

Under the motto "La huerta de los 1.001 flavors" has developed an ambitious and imaginative program of activities

The Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020 award, in its ninth call, has fallen to Murcia, the seventh Spanish city in population, with almost half a million inhabitants and capital of a region that proudly claims the flag of the authenticity of its gastro-food products and of quality tourist destination.

The project has been sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Region of Murcia, the City of Murcia and the tourist brand Costa Cálida.

The Murcian project has been analyzed by the Jury of experts in tourism and gastronomy that awards the award highlighting that: "The Murcia project shines for its loyalty to its own product and for a total and determined commitment to gastronomic tourism. Murcia wants to enhance the gastronomy as an element of tourism development of the producing territories, promoting innovation and professionalization of the different agents that intervene from the origin to the table.With this vision- the Jury continues to expose- the Capitality award contributes positively to the Region de Murcia is associated with a quality enogastronomy. "

The Jury values ​​"very positively that the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia (ITREM) is developing a Plan to Promote Enogastronomic Tourism that should contribute to making gastronomy a greater motivational element for the choice of destination, as well as to that the region of Murcia be associated with a varied, different and quality cuisine ".

80% of tourists who visit the Region of Murcia highlight gastronomy as one of the main reasons to choose it as a destination for their trip and value the Murcian gastronomic offer as very good.

Multiple activities

The Murcian project concentrates its programming in 1,001 activities, divided into 4 quarters, in which, according to the jury, "it stands out for its creative, innovative and very participatory actions".

Likewise, the Jury "values ​​that the activities to be carried out will also have a regional scope".

We highlight the most relevant:

- Itinerant Museum of Vegetables.

- Gastronomic Festival of Fruits and Vegetables of Murcia.

- Minimal, Congress of High Gastronomy in Miniature.

- Creation of gastronomic routes.

- Today we cook with ... (40 weeks and 40 cooks).

- On an annual basis, more than 3,000 students will learn to buy, cook and eat healthy this school year through the workshops of the "Classroom of Health, Senses and Sustainability".

- Creation of a seal of quality for hoteliers who use products from the Murcia garden.

- The + Tasty ... of the CEG.

Six chefs from different Spanish cities will compete for the best preparation of a traditional Spanish dish.

- Creation of 20 tapas routes in the city.

- Programs for schoolchildren and workshops on healthy cooking.

TOP dishes

The gastronomic offer of Murcia is wide and varied, as corresponds to a region rich in garden products ("the garden of Europe") and sea.

Zarangollo Murciano.
