More than 15 municipalities in Murcia will discuss the importance of sustainable food in health and the structuring of the territory (20/11/2019)

Murcia will host from tomorrow and until Saturday the third annual Meeting and the General Assembly of the Network of Cities for Agroecology.

The municipalities integrated into the Network, together with representatives of other municipalities and numerous social organizations, will participate in the conference on 'Local and sustainable food, healthy for people and territory' to be held on Friday 22 at the Merced Campus from the University of Murcia.

In the General Assembly of the Network, in which it is planned to elect a new Board of Directors and approve the annual work plan for 2020. Among other priorities, there will be discussions on the spaces for exchanging experiences among the staff of the member entities, or on the way in which to develop the campaign on 'Health and Right to Food', which will focus the efforts of the Network in the next year.

Work will also be done on how to attract new local entities to the Network, as well as introducing food policies into the state political agenda.

In parallel to the assembly of the Network, on Thursday 21 in the afternoon the meeting of the Council of Social Organizations of the Network will be held, a meeting of social and professional entities involved in sustainable food.

The objective of this meeting is to continue to deepen the debate on the role of civil society in the co-production of sustainable and healthy food policies.

On Friday, November 22, a complementary technical day begins for the Assembly of the Network, open to the participation of Murcia citizens, as well as municipalities and organizations that have not yet been integrated into the Network.

During the morning there will be three parallel spaces, with 13 micro-presentations on good local practices in the areas of food governance, advice for agroecological entrepreneurship, and local food distribution networks.

Meetings of Network Working Groups (Sustainable public procurement; Health and Right to Food, Small municipalities and supramunicipal entities; and Research) and later open spaces for networking will follow.

The afternoon will focus on three presentations on the theme of the meeting, which will mean closing it.

The Network has been promoted since 2017 by the City Councils of Zaragoza and Valencia, and supported by the foundations "Entretantos" -as technical assistance- and "Daniel and Nina Carasso".

One year after its formalization, the Network already brings together 17 municipalities and develops a strong activity in promoting local policies for sustainable and healthy eating.

It is currently composed of Aínsa, Baztán, Córdoba, El Prat de Llobregat, Fuenlabrada, Godella, Granollers, Huétor-Vega, Madrid, Meliana, Murcia, Navás, Pamplona-Iruña, Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Valencia, Valladolid, Zaragoza
