Murcia presents its smart city project at the Smart City Expo World (19/11/2019)

José Ballesta offers the advances of the Smart City project of the municipality of Murcia to the representatives of the main capitals of the world and the more than 25,000 visitors that this international forum gathers.

The mayor has held several meetings with representatives and managers of the most important technology companies in the sector.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, and the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, presented today the Smart City project of the municipality of Murcia at the congress Smart City Expo World, an international event that takes place in Barcelona and brings together representatives of the main capitals of the world and more than 25,000 visitors.

In his speech, José Ballesta stressed that “Murcia is going to become an avant-garde environment at the national level, in which the latest technologies applied to the field of urban management and the daily needs of the residents of the municipality in areas such as connectivity in public spaces, traffic management and interconnection of public transport â€.

One of the characteristics of the Smart City of Murcia project and main differentiating element is that it integrates all areas and departments of the City Council into a single platform.

In addition, all actions will be centralized from the nerve center of the smart city, CEUS (Single Monitoring Center), which will be located in the Abenarabi building in Murcia, from where you can view the municipality as a whole.

A living laboratory and local synergies

The smart city model, based on participation, citizen care, open government, sustainable mobility and urban quality, and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development goals, focuses on developing City Intelligence solutions, based on our local ecosystem and in our MIOS innovation laboratory (MiMurcia Open Innovation Smart City), a living laboratory with which sensors are deployed in the city, which provide data and allow new ideas and concepts to be developed.

In addition, another major purpose of the project is to create synergies with local innovative companies.

Not only is it an institutional project, but it will also lead to the development of an important technological area in Murcia, thanks to the new services of the MiMurcia platform.

Murcia Smart City will be an open experimentation platform, as companies are invited to participate in the development of these services.

Innovation Award

Recently, the City of Murcia has received the Future Award of Telecommunications for Innovation, for the 'Smart City MiMurcia' project, awarded by the Official College and the Association of Graduates and Technical Telecommunications Engineers, recognizing the smart city model of the Murcia Town Hall.

Meetings with the leading companies in the sector

During the congress this morning, the mayor of Murcia has held several meetings with representatives and managers of the most important technology companies in the sector.

Specifically, this great event encompasses two large blocks, which are Smart Mobility Congress, in which exhibitors and technology partners participate in projects of smart cities, and Smart City Congress, where the protagonists will be the exhibiting companies related to urban smart mobility and interurban.

José Ballesta visited different exhibitors, such as Navilens –startup Murcia that helps blind people to move autonomously and offer useful information to other users–, and Fiware, a platform promoted by the European Union, on which the MiMurcia project development, among others.

The mayor of Murcia also maintained contact with companies related to intelligent mobility, such as Flow Bird - the company specialized in parking meter management and parking application development that currently serves the City of Murcia -, and with the Association of Management Companies of Collective Transport, integrated by bus, subway and rail companies, public and private, responsible for urban collective transport of the main state-level cities, among others.
