The PSOE joins the #YoTrabajoPositivo campaign and proposes that the City Council join the cities that want to eradicate AIDS in 2030 (18/11/2019)

Councilwoman Esther Nevado points out that of the 112 new cases diagnosed in the Region, 60 are concentrated in the municipality, so it is more than justified to intervene from the City Hall and from the cities, as established by the Paris Declaration

The Municipal Socialist Group has joined the #YoTrabajoPositivo campaign, which is being developed today and which aims to separate prejudices about AIDS disease and eliminate any discrimination in the workplace to people with HIV.

The socialist councilor Esther Nevado explains that the latest data on this disease in the Region reveal that in 2017 112 new cases were diagnosed, of which 60 of them correspond to the health areas of the municipality of Murcia, so, "when concentrating half of the cases, it is more than justified to intervene from the City Hall and from the cities, as established by the Paris Declaration, whose objective is to end the AIDS epidemic in 2030, acting locally. "

Therefore, the councilor will present a motion to the next Plenary, in which she urges the City Council to adhere to this Declaration and the "Fast-Track. Cities free of HIV and AIDS" movement, as they have done Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Zaragoza or Seville.

"It is about assuming the strategy 90-90-90, which is the one proposed by ONUsida, related to the fact that 90% of the cases are diagnosed, 90% of them have treatment and that 90% of the cases treated get suppress the viral load so that the disease is undetectable, "he says.

Nevado, who states that "only if we think globally and act locally can we end this epidemic," he says, "to end stigma and discrimination, all our citizens must have access to prevention, treatment, attention and support related to HIV and tuberculosis ", and for this the Plenary of the City of Murcia must commit to ending AIDS by 2030, placing people at the center of all the policy that is developed, especially to those at greater risk.

Therefore, it also points out that the causes of risk must be addressed, taking advantage of tools such as municipal ordinances and working with the most vulnerable populations and groups.

In addition to requesting the Plenary that the City Council participate in the "Fast-Track. HIV-free Cities and AIDS" movement creating a Municipal Action Plan, it also calls for the illumination with red lights of the facade of the annexed building next 1 December as a symbol of support for the fight against HIV.
