The City Council and ASPAYM Murcia launch a campaign to give visibility to the obstacles encountered by people with reduced mobility in urban environments (18/11/2019)

Murcia will host the campaign 'Here I can not, here I do not pass', promoted by the National Federation ASPAYM (Association of people with spinal cord injury and other physical disabilities) in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic and supported by the City of Murcia.

This initiative responds to a manifest and current need to make visible the actions in shared public spaces by calling on society on the importance of adopting safe and responsible behaviors with others.

The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has indicated that "sometimes, drivers or users of scooters, bicycles and motorcycles ride on sidewalks preventing or hindering the transit of people with reduced mobility and with this campaign we seek to raise awareness among Murcia to that facilitate the passage of these people. "

For her part, the mayor of the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui Pérez, has highlighted "the importance of raising awareness and raising awareness in society about the difficulties that many people have to move normally. We have to empathize with them and take responsibility for your situation to avoid adding more obstacles to your day to day. "

The appearance of new means of transport such as scooters, bicycles and badly parked motorcycles, delivery trucks blocking the passage or terraces make urban mobility difficult for many disabled pedestrians, elderly people or other pedestrians living in the same space.

In this sense, it is the users of these vehicles themselves who are called to change these habits.

In addition, with the new single platform model, which unifies at the same level the space of pedestrians (sidewalks) and cars (the road), the number of illegal parking on sidewalks has increased, raising people with disabilities a real challenge of accessibility.

In this way, the campaign aims to make visible the incorrect actions of the different users of public roads (VMP users, delivery trucks ...) that hinder urban mobility through the city.

The objectives are:

- Promote a civic, responsible and safe knowledge of road users.

- Protect the most vulnerable users: people with disabilities.

- Promote safe mobility in the urban area.

-Promote and raise awareness about safe mobility spaces for pedestrians.

- Improve knowledge about pedestrian accidents and their mobility.

- Ensure the equitable distribution of public space between all means of transport and travel systems.

- Co-responsible for public agents and promote their participation in the design and management of public space.

For this, the website www.poraquinopaso.aspaym.org has been created where the campaign's dissemination materials are located:

- Identification cards: available on the web, through dummy created signals, the obstacles that hinder safe pedestrian mobility are represented.

- Informative video: available on the ASPAYM YouTube channel to share through social networks.

-What can you do you?

Space dedicated to recommendations to promote the campaign and carry out actions that improve urban mobility in our cities.

- Find out: studies and reports related to the urban mobility of the DGT and the entities attached.

The campaign will be carried out through social networks with the participation of Murcia who make visible the barriers that are found, to promote and raise awareness about safe mobility spaces for all pedestrians.
