On Monday, November 18, the researcher Ángel Ferrández Izquierdo will give the conference 'The fourth dimension easily understood', within the cycle 'The UMU and the scientific culture', organized by the Unit of Scientific Culture and Innovation (UCC + i) of the University of Murcia (UMU).
It will be at 7:30 p.m., in the Cultural Area Room of El Corte Inglés, with free admission until full capacity is reached.
Ferrández Izquierdo will enter us into a world called Planilandia, where one of its inhabitants is attacked by the others, the "planitos", to speak of the existence of a place of three dimensions.
They call it crazy, although the protagonist tries to explain what that three-dimensional world would be like.
Through this story, the expert will immerse us in mathematics and seek to ask ourselves if our world is three-dimensional or four-dimensional.
About the speaker
Ángel Ferrández Izquierdo is a professor of Geometry and Topology at UMU.
In 1988 he founded the Research Group on Differential and Convex Geometry, cataloged in 1999 as 'Consolidated and High Performance Group'.
Also, in 2007 it was named 'Group of Scientific Excellence of the Region of Murcia', qualification renewed in 2015.
He was founder of the Academy of Sciences of the Region of Murcia (2001) and is part of the committee of evaluators of the National Agency of Evaluation and Prospective (ANEP).
In addition, he has published in journals of high scientific impact and collaborated in national and international conferences.
He also regularly participates in national and regional press such as El País, El Mundo, La Razón, La Verdad and La Opinion.
This project has the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
