The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Murcia has done today a tribute in memoriam to José Fernando Asanza Teruel and Juan Antonio Cano Sánchez, both workers of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Murcia for more than 35 years.

The act was held early this afternoon in the Aula Magna of the faculty, and the Dean of the faculty, Gaspar Ros Berruezo, took part in it;

former rector José Antonio Lozano Teruel;

the Vice-Rector of Infrastructure Planning of the UMU, María Belén López Morales and the Vice-Rector of Information and Communications Technologies of the UPCT, who have recalled the figure of the two workers.

Apart from the imposition of the San Francisco de Asís medal posthumously, at the beginning of the act the discovery of a commemorative plaque that will give the Ministry of Veterinary Faculty the name of 'José Fernando Asanza Teruel' has begun From now.

José Fernando Asanza, who died on October 2, was the first Concierge of the Faculty, and had served in the same position from 1982 to 2019. According to his own colleagues: "He has been the benchmark of the operation and service of the Concierge , fulfilling his work in an extraordinary way, with a dedication that exceeded the normal assigned to his position ".

Professor of Statistics and Operational Research

For his part, Professor Juan Antonio Cano Sánchez, who died in October last year, was Professor of Statistics and Operational Research, was a professor at the Faculty from 1984-85 until 2018-19, although he was linked to the University of Murcia since 1978. Juan Antonio Cano led the research group of "Bayesian Inference" of the University of Murcia, applying this technique to the development of models used in Epidemiology, with the aim of finding out how a series of variables can affect an individual have a certain disease, using databases.

He was a very recognized teacher for his students and classmates.
