Opposition to an antenna in Murcia (13/11/2019)

Neighbors of the Barrio del Progreso, members of the Association of Fathers and Mothers of the CEIP José Moreno school and the Ecologists in Action association oppose the installation of a mobile phone base station antenna on Avenida del Progreso, No. 42. This infrastructure of telecommunications is intended to be located less than 50 meters from the CEIP José Moreno school and there is no emission minimization strategy in sensitive areas, as recommended by Royal Decree 1066/2001, of September 28, on the public radio domain.

Neighbors and environmentalists point out that being an industrial infrastructure should not be installed in an area of residential use such as the school environment.

On the other hand, they appeal to the application of the precautionary principle and ALARA / ALATA principle (the minimum technically possible emission), as well as safety distances to residential areas, and the municipal control of the deployment of these infrastructures, which they consider should be basic criteria for the deployment of this type of telecommunications infrastructure, especially when it is intended to be located in the vicinity of a teaching center.

In this regard, remember that the epidemiological study, in 2003, on the emissions of the mobile phone base station antenna of the district of La Ă‘ora (Murcia), conducted by researchers Enrique A. Navarro, J. Segura, of the Department of Applied Physics of the University of Valencia and M. Portolés, Claudio Gómez -Perretta de Mateo from the Research Center of the Hospital La Fe de Valencia published in Electromagnetic Byology and Medicine, No. 22, Michigan (USA), indicated a group of symptoms of continuous exposure to mobile phone emissions.

"Headaches, Insomnia, Impaired Circadian Rhythms, concentration difficulties, alterations in blood pressure and dermatology, visual dysfunctions, etc."

In addition, the European Parliament Resolution, on sanitary considerations related to electromagnetic fields, of April 2, 2009, establishes that: “that special attention be paid to biological effects when assessing the possible impact on radiation health electromagnetic, especially if one takes into account that some studies have detected that very low level radiation already has very harmful effects;

calls for an active investigation into possible health risks and to reach solutions that nullify or reduce the pulsation and modulation of the amplitude of the frequencies used for transmission ”.

Not forgetting that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in its Resolution 1815: Potential dangers of electromagnetic fields and their effects on the environment, of May 27, 2011 regarding the standards or threshold levels for emissions of electromagnetic fields of all types and frequencies, recommends that the ALARA principle be applied or "as low as reasonably possible", in relation to both the thermal effects and the thermal or biological effects of electromagnetic emissions or radiation.

It also states that it is necessary to establish prevention thresholds for long-term exposure levels to microwaves in all interior areas, in accordance with the Precautionary Principle, not exceeding 0.6 volts per meter, and in the medium term reduce it to 0 , 2 volts per meter and states that to determine the location of any new GSM, UMTS, WiFi or WiMax antenna not only based on the interests of the operators, but in consultation with local and regional authorities, local residents and associations of affected citizens.

For these reasons, neighbors and environmentalists demand the restitution of the previous urban legality, avoiding the installation of the antenna and its transfer and location in another environment away from residential areas.
