The UMU celebrates the twenty-fourth edition of the festival of San Eloy, patron of the silversmiths (13/11/2019)

The University of Murcia celebrates this year the twenty-fourth edition of the festival of San Eloy, patron of the silversmiths.

The commemoration of this holiday is already a consolidated tradition in the UMU, where every year, the students of the fourth course of Art History of the UMU, under the direction of Professor Jesús Rivas Carmona, organize a series of activities that serve as memories , the tribute and the diffusion of what was an important profession in the Region of Murcia: the goldsmith.

This celebration aims to commemorate the ancient tradition of the silversmith's guild, whose big day corresponds to November 28, coinciding according to tradition, with the Thursday before December 1.

In this party, events and celebrations will be recreated that will make the attendees travel to the past, through multiple activities that will take place from November 14 to 28, day in which the festival will culminate with a ceremony dedicated to San Eloy in the church of San Bartolome.

A special event will also take place this year, as the connection of the silversmiths of yesteryear with the Brotherhood of Servitas will be remembered, to which the University of Murcia will honor giving him the position of Faithful Contrast of Honor San Eloy 2019.

To encourage students to participate in these traditions, a new course on goldsmithing will be developed during the month of November, by the hand of professors and specialists in the field that come from various universities and institutions.
