The Contracting Board proposes the awarding of a new access to the Segura River that will improve accessibility (12/11/2019)

The Contracting Committee, chaired by the Councilor for Development, Mario Gomez, and attended by the mayor of Citizen Security and Economic Management, Eduardo Martínez-Oliva, today proposed the award of new access to the Segura River in the section between the Red Cross Square and the Iron Bridge.

Pedestrian access and garden area

These works, whose term of execution is one year and a total amount of 2,166,290 euros, will provide pedestrian access to the Segura River in this section, which will improve the accessibility of Murcia, more specifically, of people with motor disability;

as well as maintenance vehicles, bicycles, canoes, etc.

The demolition of a section of the riverbed wall in the area called Chinese Garden is proposed.

Its opening will allow the connection between a sloping terrain platform that recovers the original situation in a vegetated slope of the relationship with that of the banks of the Segura River.

The slope has new functions, not only of access to the river, but also of environmental recovery, of a zone of stay, of a zone of sports, leisure and recreational activities.

The descent is considered as a cramped space where you can enjoy the vision of the sheet of water and access through a garden area with a wide path of 3 m wide that does not exceed the slope of 6%, pedestrian , by bicycle, in a wheelchair or to bring the canoes closer.

This project is included in the Murcia Río actions and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund- ERDF.
