The Food Delivery Service will benefit more people from next year (08/11/2019)

The Governing Board has given its approval to the new specifications to tender the new contract of the Service of meals of domicile in the municipality that will begin as of the next month of January 2020.

The amount of the contract has been increased in relation to the current one, which will allow the Murcia City Council to expand coverage and offer this service to more people.

The total price of the contract for the initial two years of the contract is established in the amount of 750,000 euros which represents an increase of 14% over the amount of the current contract.

The municipal food delivery service is aimed at people over 65 who live alone or live with a dependent person or with limited personal autonomy, and those with a disability that significantly affects their personal autonomy with little or no family support and Difficulties in preparing meals.

The City of Murcia aims not only to provide food and distribution to those who, due to their circumstances, require it, but also to prevent situations of risk that may arise due to an inadequate food diet.

The menus that the elderly receive in their homes are distributed by specially trained personnel for this task, in refrigerated vans and prepared for it, carrying out the whole process of preparation, packaging and distribution of meals under the most strict quality and food safety controls .

An average of 90,000 menus are those that the City of Murcia serves annually through this service to a total of more than 300 beneficiaries that will now be increased from the entry into force of the new contract whose specifications also incorporates new social criteria and quality in the provision of the service.

This initiative is integrated into a set of care and care services in the family environment that are provided from the public primary care system of Social Services of the City Council, such as home help service, family respite and telecare , with the aim of favoring the maintenance of the elderly in their usual environment of living with the maximum quality of life and level of autonomy that they can achieve based on their personal and family profiles and circumstances.
