The City Council, Bankia and the CajaMurcia Foundation renew their commitment to 32,000 Murcians (08/11/2019)

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the president of the Cajamurcia Foundation, Carlos Egea, have signed the collaboration agreement between both institutions in order to promote improvement works and various activities in the network of 76 senior social centers, of which benefit 32,000 people different districts and neighborhoods of the municipality.

The agreement that has been renewed, with the presence of the Councilor for Seniors, Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui Pérez, and the corporate director of the Bankia Territorial in Murcia and Alicante, Olga García, supposes the contribution of 20,000 euros by of Bankia and the Cajamurcia Foundation for this year 2019.

These funds will be used, mainly, for improvement and conditioning work in these centers, living spaces, assistance and permanent activity, distributed throughout all neighborhoods and districts of the municipality, as well as the development of various cultural and recreational programs and workshops, These include courses in gerontogy, artistic expression and cognitive stimulation.

The Centers themselves will decide what they will invest in the use of these funds.

“I want to thank the Cajamurcia Foundation for attending the call, not only from the City Council of Murcia, but from the more than 32,000 seniors who come to these centers every day, returning to Murcia society what they receive from it in the performance of its legitimate activity, â€said the mayor, who recalled that“ at this time in the municipality of Murcia people over 60 represent 20% of the total population, more than 90,000 people and it is good and necessary to give them that visibility †.

The Cajamurcia Foundation has been collaborating with the City Council since 1999 with different actions aimed at promoting the care and social promotion of the elderly in the municipality.

During these years, both the improvement of the facilities and the development of activities, mainly cultural and recreational events, have been carried out.

The president of Fundación Cajamurcia, Carlos Egea, said that “our entity has been collaborating with the City of Murcia for decades, to boost the care and social promotion of the elderly, mainly through the leisure, wellness and aging programs assets that are developed in these municipal centers, authentic spaces of coexistence, assistance and permanent activity â€.

The corporate director of the Bankia Territorial in Murcia and Alicante, Olga García, commented that “for Bankia it is a great satisfaction to collaborate with the City of Murcia in the improvement of the Senior Social Centers, which contribute to improving the quality of life of this group through social and cultural programs, thus responding to their care and leisure needs â€.
