Huermur says that Culture recognizes the aggravation of the damages reported by the Association in the Counterpart (05/11/2019)

The Ministry of Education and Culture orders the Board of Landowners to modify the initial restoration project as it is clearly insufficient, given the aggravation of the damage suffered by the Azud de la Contraparada since 2016.

After a request for information from Huermur to the General Directorate of Cultural Property to inspect this protected monument after the rains of the last DANA, Culture has recognized that the damage suffered by this hydraulic engineering work, whose origins date back to the centuries IX-X, have increased significantly.

Huermur filed the corresponding complaints about the poor state of the monument in January 2017, and criticizes the ineffectiveness of the Murcia administrations to solve the bad state of this monument, which has been falling apart for almost three years without anyone moving a single finger.

The conservation entity requires the immediate repair of the monument of the Contraparada, and that so many years of prolonged degradation that this cultural legacy of the garden of Murcia is suffering.

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) has recently received a report from the Ministry of Education and Culture which acknowledges the aggravation of the damages reported since 2017 by Huermur in the Azud Mayor of Murcia or Contraparada.

A historic dam declared a National Monument since 1982, and currently considered as a Property of Cultural Interest BIC, whose origins date back to the IX-X centuries, which constitutes the beginning of the orchard of Murcia and where the traditional irrigation network of the garden is born of Murcia for centuries.

Huermur requested a series of information from the General Directorate of Cultural Property on the Azud de la Contraparada, as well as an urgent inspection of the monument after the torrential rains of the last DANA.

As a result of this requirement, Culture has responded to Huermur that after the inspection carried out by the technicians of the General Directorate, it has been proven that the damage that this monument has suffered has been considerably aggravated.

Likewise, Culture remarks that since the new situation created by the recent torrential rains has caused a significant increase in damage to the Counterparty, it requires the Board of Landowners, responsible for Azud, to modify the Basic and Execution Project for the restoration of the Azud of the Contraparada.

Huermur has tirelessly denounced the destruction that occurred in the dam at the end of December 2016 after some rains.

Numerous writings and communications, which even gave rise to investigations by the Ombudsman in Madrid initiated by the conservation organization, are accumulated at the tables of the Ministry of Education and Culture without responding, and at the Segura Hydrographic Confederation, but without Almost three years ago this important BIC monument has been repaired from the garden of Murcia that is literally falling apart.

The conservation group regrets that Murcia have to attend this daunting show of degradation of one of the most important and significant monuments of the Murcian garden.

In the same vein, the President of Huermur, Sergio Pacheco, remarks that: "It is up to us to see how the Contraparada, jewel of the cultural legacy of the garden of Murcia, literally falls apart while administrations have been almost three years playing throwing the ball, the political leaders and rulers filling the mouth of the garden and heritage, and the Board of Landowners that does not repair the Azud. "

In the same sense, Huermur criticizes that the lack of coordination and administrative impulse of the complaints filed in 2017 has led to this aggravation of the situation of one of the most important Cultural Interest Assets in Murcia, remembering that if it had acted since the At the first moment that Huermur was sued, this situation of neglect, abandonment, and destruction of one of our main historical and cultural legacies would not have been reached.

Without the Contraparada one could not understand the orchard of Murcia or our region, so Huermur criticizes that works and investments are repeatedly announced around the monument, but the really important thing about this BIC, as is its structure, is mired in chaos and destruction for years.

Finally, Huermur recalls that in September he presented a parliamentary question at the Regional Assembly addressed to the Ministry of Culture, asking why no effective measures have been taken so far to restore and recover the Azud Mayor of Murcia, Well of Cultural Interest "the Contraparada ", including the subsidiary execution, and on what date they are expected to carry out real and effective measures to prevent the degradation of this National Monument essential for the region of the Huerta de Murcia and all the regional heritage.

Question that was admitted for processing by the Bureau of parliament, but that remains unanswered today.
