The University of Murcia and Villapharma create a chair of Medical Chemistry (05/11/2019)

The University of Murcia and the company Eurofins Villapharma Research signed a collaboration agreement on Tuesday for the creation of the Villapharma Chair in Medical Chemistry, with the purpose of establishing a space dedicated entirely to research, training and dissemination in the field of chemistry Organic synthetic and medical chemistry.

The contribution of the company in this project has been 20,000 euros.

Alicia Rubio, promoter of the agreement and vice-chancellor for Employment, Entrepreneurship and Society, explained that among the priority lines of the University of Murcia is making alliances with public and private entities that allow access and generation of scientific and technological knowledge to to be able to transfer it to society and the productive sector.

For his part, the CEO of Villapharma, José Manuel Villalgordo, has expressed his gratitude to the UMU for this collaboration "that will allow us to have access to talent and skills that are currently being trained at the university, in addition to participating in research projects that work on the discovery of new drugs. "

The dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Pedro Lozano, has expressed his satisfaction for two fundamental reasons: "first, because José Manuel Villalgordo is a graduate of the University of Murcia and, second, because a company of the size and importance of Villapharma wants to collaborate with the University of Murcia by opening opportunities for the future. "

Juan Antonio Camillo, president of the Social Council of the UMU, has congratulated the rector team because, since his inauguration, he has been able to double the number of chairs of the institution that, with this, amount to a total of thirty.

Rector Luján has closed the event, which has highlighted the importance of the UMU becoming the main ally of entrepreneurial initiatives and thanked Villapharma for the trust placed in the signing of this agreement.

"For us it is essential to be a reliable institution, because as a public entity we have the obligation to return to society what we do," he concluded.
