Murcia hosts the grand finale of the Best Rice Contest in Spain (30/10/2019)

Murcia will host next Wednesday, November 6, the grand finale of the Best Rice Contest in Spain that will take place at the Promenade hotel from 10 in the morning when live rice production will begin.

About 12:30 pm will be the presentation of recipes and awards.

The six regional finalists are Carlos Soriano, of the Solraig Restaurant in Castelldefels (Barcelona), Aurora Torres, of the La Herradura Restaurant in Los Montesinos (Alicante), Cristóbal Martín, of the Los Mellizos de Torremolinos Restaurant (Málaga), Fernando Ortega, of the Real Club of Golf La Herrería of El Escorial (Madrid), Juan David Couñago, of Mala Sangre Food & Club of Vigo (Pontevedra) and Juan Ignacio Silva, of the Mar y Magma de Candelaria Restaurant (Tenerife).

They will cook their recipes live and will be valued by a jury composed of the renowned chefs Kiko Moya, whose restaurant L'Escaleta located in Cocentaina (Alicante) has 2 Michelin stars;

Estrella Carrillo, chef of the Santa Ana Murcian restaurant and president of the Murcia Association of Restaurants;

and Peio Cruz, executive chef of Unilever Food Solutions.

From a rice with oxtail to one accompanied with squid and peas from the Maresme, going through rice with seafood, mushrooms or artichokes from Vega Baja.

These are just some of the ingredients of the six finalist recipes of the III Edition of the Best Rice Contest of Spain 2019, promoted by Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) and Knorr, with the support of Hospitality of Spain and the Federation of Cooks and Bakers from Spain (Facyre).

The event, which has the support of the Department of Employment, Economic Promotion and Tourism of the City of Murcia, aims to boost rice consumption outside homes, enrich the experience of diners and recognize the work of professionals The restoration in Spain.

At the end of the event there will be a tasting of the famous Calasparra rice.

This year more than 500 restaurants from all over Spain have participated in the contest with various rice recipes for all palates.

In addition, this third edition has broken the voting record with more than 8,000 votes by consumers.
