The PSOE proposes that the City Council reserve places for military labor personnel as established by the Ministry and Federation of Municipalities (29/10/2019)

Councilwoman Teresa Franco will defend in the next plenary session that public employment offers reserve, if possible, up to 20% of the positions of the Police category and that the time of services provided in the Armed Forces is valued as merit

The Municipal Socialist Group considers that to achieve real equality between citizens, decisive steps must be taken in different areas.

Therefore, the agreement signed last June between the Ministry of Defense and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces with the aim of promoting the incorporation into the world of military personnel of the Armed Forces can be an opportunity to advance in equal opportunities in the town.

For the councilwoman Teresa Franco, "the military have prohibited and restricted fundamental rights, a situation that leaves them in frank inequality with respect to the rest of the citizenship", and adds that they are "inequalities when defending their professional rights, when seek professional promotion and especially when it comes to building a future, both inside and outside the Armed Forces. "

As an example, he points out that "the Law already deals in a different way with career military and temporary military personnel, some endows them with a career, with the advantages that this entails in professional and personal development and occupational safety, while others offers a 'commitment' to a temporary job until they turn 45 ".

The councilor believes that "a large part of the military are citizens with a huge lack of attention from the administrations; their image and the praises they receive for their work are not enough to later address their needs and solve their problems" , so the next Plenary will defend that the City Council adheres to the aforementioned Agreement, as other Spanish municipalities have already done: Melilla, Alcorcón, Valladolid or Segovia.

Local administrations that subscribe to this document must assume certain commitments: Within the framework of their public employment offers, they will have to make a reservation of up to 20% of the Police category seats for troop and seamen (MTM) , provided that the rules on coordination of the Local Police of the respective Autonomous Community allow it, and, on the rest of the places, both of official and labor personnel, assess as merit the time of services provided in the Armed Forces as MTM, in agreement with what is established in art.
