The University of Murcia enables a virtual desktop with tools for students with disabilities (28/10/2019)

The University of Murcia (UMU) has created a virtual desk designed to improve the accessibility of people with disabilities to the services and applications of the institution.

The Virtual Desktop Integrator with Applied Technologies (EVITA) offers tools, applications and support products that favor learning;

such as text readers for people with visual disabilities.

The great advantage of the EVITA desktop is that it can be accessed through an internet browser, from any computer or mobile device through https://eva.um.es and no password is necessary for its use;

so anyone with an email from the University of Murcia can use it.

At the University of Murcia, around eight hundred students with disabilities are enrolled;

Although the number of potential users of EVITA can reach 1500 if students with learning problems are taken into account, they may also require some of the tools adapted to improve their efficiency in the study and preparation of the subjects.

This virtual desktop will be progressively completed with new applications demanded by users and as more needs are detected.

EVITA is a project in which the Information Technology and Applied Communications Area of the University of Murcia (ATICA) and the Diversity and Volunteering Service have worked together;

and that is born as fulfillment of one of the essential objectives of the UMU Digital Strategy, whereby digital services must be inclusive and without accessibility barriers.

The resources offered through this virtual desktop are divided into four groups mainly:
