The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, accompanied by the Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure Planning, Belén López Morales, inaugurated on Tuesday the new facilities of the Saavedra Fajardo building after the expansion and rehabilitation works.
In this building the Degrees in Criminology, Political Science and Dentistry are taught, as well as the courses of the School of Legal Practice, the Senior Classroom and the Language Service of the University of Murcia.
The Saavedra Fajardo is one of the oldest buildings of the University of Murcia, located in the Actor Isidoro Máiquez street of the capital, and has undergone successive reforms in several of its plants in recent years.
On this occasion, the expansion of the ground floor and exterior spaces of the building has been extended and reformed.
The main objective of the work has been the expansion of teaching spaces.
Thus, 2 new classrooms (0.3 and 0.4) have been built in the previous space occupied by the publications service, which has allowed to host the first 2 courses of the Degree in Political Science and reorder the allocation of the rest of the classrooms;
giving priority to the concentration of the Senior Classroom classes on this ground floor.
Likewise, the spaces and accessibility to the services of the Senior Classroom, the spaces of the associations, the Social Council and the socialization room have been reformed and improved.
A comprehensive reform of the toilets has also been carried out, adapting them to the needs of people with some type of disability.
The distribution of spaces, signage and visibility of the concierge has also been improved in the lobby.
On the outside a more accessible, more pleasant and more comfortable space has been created, repairing the central access, the lateral ones and conditioning the landscaped areas and the external benches.
