The City Council shows in Paris the methodology of the Urban DNA project (23/10/2019)

The Urban DNA project has been one of the issues that the Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, has presented during her speech at the congress held in Paris, organized by the Eurocities Network.

Barnabas has presented the Urban DNA initiative for revitalization of neighborhoods, "methodology recognized and awarded at European level for the impulse that involves the inclusion of citizens in public policies."

“Citizens increasingly demand to participate in the decision-making processes in the areas that affect them and, therefore, it is important to listen to them and share their environment with actions that promote cooperation and in turn contribute to the improvement of their neighborhood â€, highlights the mayor.

Recently, 76 cities, including Murcia, have adopted the Eurocities Declaration on citizen participation.

With this conference, the signatory members pledge to support a series of principles and actions, showing their commitment to create a Europe where people come first.

These principles are the inspiring elements of citizen participation on which the city strategy Murcia 2030 and Urban Agenda are governed.

In this sense, the municipal official said that "cities have been experimenting and innovating with new forms of participatory democracy to support traditional representative democracy."

"This is essential to respond successfully to pressing public concerns, such as climate change, sustainable mobility and integrated urban development," he said.
