Murcia joins the Race of Cities against Pancreatic Cancer on October 27 (21/10/2019)

The Cities Race against Pancreatic Cancer is launched for the fifth consecutive year.

Under the motto 'In this race I will beat the record of Los récores.

Beating pancreatic cancer ', Murcia joins this sporting event that will take place on October 27.

The Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, today presented this solidarity race promoted to raise awareness in society of the importance of this type of cancer and to raise funds to continue investigating against the disease.

Everything collected through the inscriptions will go entirely to the investigation.

The race will start at 10.00 in the morning with departure and finish from the Paseo del Malecón de Murcia.

Any of the 5K or 10K modalities can be done in progress.

"Murcia joins the cities that fight against pancreatic cancer and we do it by combining sports and health, raising awareness of the importance of research and prevention," said the mayor.

This event is promoted by ACANPAN (Association of Pancreatic Cancer) and AESPAN (Spanish Association of Pancreatology) and organized in a particular way by the daughter of a patient with the financial assistance of Talleres Manuel Gallego SL official dealership Kia motors Murcia and FAMU Athletics Federation of Murcia, Antonio Jesús Bermúdez.

For people who cannot participate in any of the City Race events, the organizers have launched Row 0 from which they can collaborate altruistically in this solidarity cause.

In Spain, last year more than 7,700 cases are diagnosed, of which 91% will die within the next 5 years if no new ways of treating this aggressive cancer are found.

Despite these data, the institutional endowments to investigate pancreatic cancer, both in our country and in the European environment, do not exceed 2%.

The Pancreatic Cancer Association and the Spanish Pancreatology Association that continues to focus on research as the best way to fight the disease, through scholarships that are called Carmen Delgado / Miguel Pérez - Mateo in honor of the founders of both associations, deceased because of the disease.

So far 355,000 euros have been donated to the research and some of the scholarships are already obtaining results.
