The City Council keeps municipal taxes frozen for the seventh consecutive year (18/10/2019)

The fiscal pressure of the City of Murcia will continue below the national average with the update to the CPI of taxes.

The Councilor for Economic Management claims a reform in the financing of local corporations so that the city of Murcia is no longer one of the worst funded in Spain

The Governing Board has given the green light to the draft fiscal ordinances for 2020 whose main feature is that municipal taxes remain frozen for the seventh consecutive year.

Thus, the rate of garbage collection, the IBI, the tax of economic activities and the tax on vehicles of mechanical traction will be updated to the CPI, specifically, which will allow the fiscal pressure of the City of Murcia to continue being below the national average.

The rest of the taxes, fees and public prices remain unchanged, that is, without the application of the CPI.

"The City of Murcia has maintained taxes, fees and public prices without any alteration in the 2013-2019 period, despite the fact that the cumulative update of the CPI has been 5.8%," explained the councilor of Citizen Security and Economic Management, Eduardo Martínez-Oliva.

"During these six years without any increase, there has been a decrease in the vast majority of them. Thus the IBI has declined in this time on three occasions, the volume of the descent being around 15%," Martínez said. -Olive.

"Likewise, the IAE, the vehicle tax, the market rate, the nursery schools, the civil marriage rate, the ford rate, the garden IBI, the price of water, garbage collection and public prices have decreased of the swimming pools and important payments have been suppressed such as home help, telecare, family respite, establishment opening fees, change of ownership ... ", said the mayor.

This policy of keeping taxes below the national average already meant last year a saving of 12.4 million euros by reviewing the cadastral values of the vast majority of properties in the municipality.

Likewise, the councilor stressed that "a new financing model for local corporations that updates their tax revenues is absolutely necessary without directly affecting the citizen's pocket. The State cannot continue to legislate and impose expenses on corporations without compensation for them. "

The mayor stressed that "we are claiming not what we deserve but what we need."

He added that "we have the obligation to offer quality services to the residents of the area with the highest population growth in Spain, such as the city of Murcia."

Murcia is one of the municipalities in Spain that least perceives the State.

Valencia received in 2018 a financing of 429 euros / inhabitant, Málaga 407 and Zaragoza 392, while Murcia received only 221 euros and Alicante 232, that is, half that of cities with similar characteristics.

Despite this, the City Council has continued to provide quality services for Murcia with taxes below the national average "but we will not stop demanding from the State what we know belongs to us," concluded the councilor.
