The Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, and the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, have attended today the Forum 'Committed, for a sustainable Region of Murcia', organized by 7 Television in the Archive Regional.

A dozen experts from companies and institutions in the Region have participated in this forum focused on the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Circular Economy, as well as the implementation of sustainable policies.

Mercedes Bernabé has intervened with a presentation in which he explained the local strategy of Circular Economy of the City Council in the framework of the Murcia 2030 Strategy and aligned with the implementation of the SDGs at the local level.

In this sense, Mercedes Bernabé explained that "the purpose is to maintain the value of products, materials, services, waste and resources in the economy for as long as possible, minimizing the generation of waste."

Currently, this strategy is in its first phase, in the process of public participation for diagnosis, which aims to seek the opinion of all the agents involved in the process.

For the next November 4 a working table has been convened composed of all municipal technicians who have a direct involvement in the field of circular economy of their competences.

Once this pre-diagnosis phase is finished, the participation and public consultation will begin and, from there, it will be presented to the Social Council of the City so that with its contributions a final document can be made.

Likewise, interviews will be carried out with other social, economic and institutional agents with weight in the municipality.

As an example, Mercedes Bernabé has shown some of the initiatives in which the City Council is already working, such as the Valuewaste Project focused on the revaluation of the organic fraction of urban waste.

This project brings together 17 partners from six countries and has a budget of more than 10 million euros.

It began in November 2018 and is scheduled to culminate in November 2022.

The City Loops Project initiative also stands out (From February 2019 to February 2023), which consists in facilitating the transition to a Circular Economy regarding waste from construction and demolition.

This project brings together 23 partners from 12 countries and has a budget of 11 million euros.
