Proyecto Hombre attended 1,655 people with an addiction during 2018 (17/10/2019)

While the substance for which treatment is most demanded is cocaine (42%), alcohol is the most consumed (78.7%).

The number of women treated with addiction problems increases by 19%.

The prevention program has reached almost 3,000 schoolchildren.

Young people and teenagers are 19% of the people served in Proyecto Hombre during 2018.

Proyecto Hombre Murcia today presented its annual activities report, where it reflects the work that has been done in the Region of Murcia during 2018. The event was attended by the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, the Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, the general director of Health and Addictions, José Carlos Vicente, the president of the Solidarity and Reintegration Foundation Board, Tomás Zamora Ros, and the director of the Murcia Man Project, Asunción Santos de Pascual.

The report reflects, through figures, the problems in relation to drug use and other addictions;

Well, during 2018, 1,655 people have been treated in their different diagnostic and treatment programs.

The largest increase in the volume of people has been experienced by treatment programs, where 18% of users have been treated more than the previous year;

while the assessment and diagnosis program has also increased by 13%.

“Proyecto Hombre is the pioneer institution in the Region specialized in the care of people with addiction problems, a reference with more than 20 years of history in Murcian society and an example of unconditional work at the service of the values ​​that humanism represents” , explained the mayor.

From its Day Centers in Murcia and Caravaca de la Cruz, and the Therapeutic Community of El Palmar, Proyecto Hombre has been accompanying thousands of people since May 5, 1995 and helping them to believe in themselves.

Profile

This year the profile of the person attended in Proyecto Hombre Murcia has been that of a middle-aged man with medium studies, work and at least 14 years of substance use.

This person goes to treatment for their cocaine use (44.7%) or mainly alcohol and cocaine consumption (30.3%).

The users, on the other hand, have a different profile.

She is still a middle-aged woman, with medium studies, work and at least 10 years of consumption.

However, the main reason for consumption is alcohol (34.1%), followed by cocaine (25%) and polyconsumption of alcohol and cocaine (25%).

These profiles are mainly attended by the Night Program that, once again, is again the most demanded also this 2018 with 182 attended.

This program is aimed at people with problems arising from the use, abuse and dependence of substances and other addictions, which require attention compatible with their work, family, social and personal commitments.

In this program, we observed a small increase in the number of people who perform pathological gambling (18.4%) compared to 2017 (15%).

Gender and Addictions

From Proyecto Hombre Murcia, a special effort has been made to incorporate the gender perspective both transversally in their treatment programs, and specifically in the Women Program, where users are offered individualized attention and the problem is addressed that women have been associated with substance use, which makes them more reluctant to ask for help.

This year, the Women's Program has experienced a growth of 19%.

Mention also that, due to these associated difficulties that women present and their delay in attending treatment, they reach this with a more serious profile.

Profile that adapts to the Base program, this being oriented to people of legal age who consume any type of substance or perform game behaviors, and whether due to their personal, family, social or labor characteristics, they have suffered a significant deterioration of the social structure , family and work that sustained them.

The highest percentage (18%) of women attended from among all treatment programs has occurred within the Base Program.

Young boys

The youth program is the indicated prevention and / or treatment itinerary that is offered to all those under 25 who require support and help for problems of both abuse and dependence on substances and / or game, whatever their employment or training situation, and have sufficient control to achieve abstinence.

The people who attend this program represent 19% of those treated in the treatment programs of Proyecto Hombre Murcia.

The consumer profile they present is different from other programs, finding a majority group of young people between 18 and 25 years old, followed by adolescents aged 14 to 17 years.

Mainly they are men who go to treatment with problematic consumption of cannabis (66%), tobacco (63.1%), and / or alcohol (62.1%).

Also mention that the young people attended presented behavioral addiction in 22.3%, the most frequent being the pathological game.

Keyset

The commitment of Proyecto Hombre for prevention culminates this year with the implementation of the Set of keys in 7 schools in the Region, which, together with the rest of the school prevention programs carried out by the institution, total almost 3,000 schoolchildren attended this year.

This school and family prevention program is designed to begin applying in 1st ESO and continue its development along 2nd, 3rd and 4th, in order to offer students a complete and appropriate training at each age.

It aims to develop fundamental skills in the process of becoming adults such as decision making, communication, resistance to group pressure, self-esteem ... Fundamental values ​​to face life with maturity and autonomy.
