The Program of Environmental Volunteering of the Municipality of Murcia carries out a day to raise awareness about the problem of single-use plastics (17/10/2019)

The Environmental Volunteering Program of the Municipality of Murcia of the Department of Sustainable Development and Huerta, directed by Antonio Navarro, will hold, on Saturday, October 19, a day to raise public awareness about the problem of plastics of a single use and its alternatives.

In this activity, which will take place in the Nature Hall of the White Majal, the volunteers will know what problems are generated by the massive use of plastics in our ecosystems and what are the alternatives to these products.

Likewise, through dynamics of games and manipulative workshops, they will learn to make some objects that are used on a day-to-day basis, such as bags made with T-shirts, sandwich bags made of paper, etc.

The Environmental Volunteer Program of the Municipality of Murcia, which bears the motto of "We Do Pineapple !, was launched during the last quarter of 2011. Since then more than 400 people have registered as volunteers.

As an example of the activities carried out by the program, between the months of October and December 6 activities have been programmed, ranging from the development of a herbarium that collects some of the plants of the interpretive path of the plaster quarry in the Majal Blanco, until an inventory of the vegetation in the Contraparada was carried out, an evaluation of the elements of heritage interest of the White Majal and three activities to raise public awareness about the problem that plastics pose in our environment.

The Environmental Volunteering Program of the Municipality of Murcia is part of the Environmental Awareness and Information Program of the Department of Sustainable Development and Huerta, which also includes an extensive program of guided environmental itineraries, workshops and family seminars, information for visitors to Majal Blanco and La Contraparada spaces and various environmental dissemination activities.
