More than 40,000 schoolchildren participate in City Council programs to promote healthy habits (14/10/2019)

José Ballesta presents the Health Guide, which will be distributed to the teaching, social and health centers of the municipality.

Those interested in first aid grew by 75%.

As a novelty, the Guide includes two new workshops related to the prevention of the tiger mosquito and the practice of outdoor exercise in the gardens of the municipality.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, and the Councilor for Education and Children's Schools, Belén López, presented this morning the Health Guide, which is a deployment of 28 educational programs aimed at Children, youth and their families, aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and preventing addictions.

"On this occasion, we have incorporated two new programs of special interest, such as 'Knowing the tiger mosquito', which will provide information, for example, on how to prevent the proliferation of this insect," said the mayor of Murcia, who He added that “more than 40,000 students, along with their families, participated during the past year in the programs of this comprehensive guide, which reached a total of 130 schools and 20 health centers, as well as 1,000 professionals more than in the previous exercise, between teachers and health workers â€.

The guide summarizes the different Health programs offered by the City Council, aimed at both the educational community and social groups.

Coinciding with the beginning of the course, it is being distributed in the educational, social and health centers of the municipality of Murcia, making known the benefits of healthy eating and sports, the correct use of technologies and the risk factors associated with Addictions, among other topics.

In addition to the 'Knowing the tiger mosquito' program, whose purpose is to sensitize and inform about the impact that this insect has on health and the environment, as well as inform on how to prevent its proliferation and protect itself against its bites, the City Council has added to the guide another new program, under the name 'Healthy Park.

This activity will inform on how gymnastic devices distributed in the more than 3,000 green areas of the municipality should be used and the practice of outdoor exercise will be encouraged.

Among the workshops that last school year registered a high participation stand out those related to emotional intelligence, which foster emotional skills to know how to deal with the different situations of daily life, which reached 4,542 participants.

On the other hand, the workshops whose central theme is the responsible use of the new information and communication technologies, tripled their participation with respect to the previous year and registered a total of 4,447 participants.

Likewise, it is also worth mentioning the first aid workshops, in which the number of participants has increased by 75%, reaching up to 2,322 people.

Participation has also increased in programs that include aspects related to the Circular Economy, such as the workshops on healthy and sustainable food organized in the Plaza de Abastos de Verónicos.

Encourage the consumption of fruits, vegetables, legumes and blue fish, learn to buy and cook healthy foods, know the Murcian garden and the Mediterranean diet, inform and prevent the risks of alcohol and drug consumption, as well as publicize the consequences of the consumption of alcoholic beverages, tobacco and cannabis, are some of the topics on which the workshops of this comprehensive educational guide, open to all people, are treated.

More than 3,000 neighbors enrolled in neighborhood participation workshops in neighborhoods and districts

Currently more than 3,000 people have already enrolled in workshops related to the promotion of physical activity and neighborhood participation, among which the activity 'Take the first step', aimed at adults, in which walks are organized step by step light by the districts and neighborhoods of Murcia, four days a week, and the workshop 'Municipal Health Schools', which promotes autonomy in the adult and elderly population of the municipality, and in which healthy lifestyles are promoted .
