The City Council presents 'Knowing fibromyalgia', a document to bring this disease closer to society (09/10/2019)

The Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, today presented the collaboration agreement between the City Council and the Association of fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and other rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases of Murcia (Fibrofamur) under the slogan 'Knowing fibromyalgia'.

Fibromyalgia is a disease whose main symptom is pain in the muscles and joints of the entire body, lasting at least three months.

This medical condition is usually intermittent at the beginning and progressively become more persistent.

Other key symptoms are usually fatigue, sleep disturbances, lack of concentration and memory and / or mood.

The Councilor for Health explains that “his diagnosis is clinical, there is no analytical, radiological or other test that can confirm it, but that a detailed history and a complete physical examination performed by a healthcare professional will be vital for the diagnosis "

Also, there is currently no curative treatment for fibromyalgia, but there are many measures that relieve symptoms and improve the quality of life.

Thus, "Knowing Fibromyalgia" is a document in polydiptic format that arises with the motivation of informing people who debut in fibromyalgia, as well as the general population.

“This document approaches the disease to society through basic notions about the disease, origin, diagnosis, treatment as well as advice on how to live positively with the disease.”, Explains Felipe Coello.

The City Council, through its municipal Health services, subsidizes projects related to the health and welfare of the population by non-profit associations.

This Fibrofamur context since 2017 has benefited from this support for its project 'Plan of care for people with fibromyalgia', which aims to achieve a better quality of life for people affected by the disease and their families through a plan of reception with an information and advice service by a social worker, self-help workshops with a psychologist, “fibro gymnastics”, hydrotherapy and leisure and free time activities.

It also highlights a dissemination plan on fibromyalgia to sensitize the Murcia population, a physiotherapist and volunteer staff.
