The 'New filmmakers' initiative of the UMU premieres its winning project at the Regional Film Library (04/10/2019)

The University of Murcia, through the Cinema Classroom, opens this Saturday, October 5, the winning project of the 'New Filmmakers' call.

The screening of the short film 'Reconciliation', by Ana Barceló, will take place at the Regional Film Library at 21 hours after months of intense filming and postproduction work.

'Reconciliation' is the second cinematographic work of the filmmaker Ana Barceló, after obtaining an accident in the category of Shorts and Documentaries of CreaMurcia 2018 for her first short film 'La culpa'.

In the filming, which covered several days in locations in the city of Murcia, students of the UMU Audiovisual Communication degree have participated actively, as well as actresses from the ESAD of Murcia and women linked to the field of audiovisual creation.

The filmmaker has valued this initiative as a very positive proposal to give visibility to the writers and directors who begin in this area and need a boost to give viability and visibility to their projects.

"I can not feel more proud of having won this award with a script with which I feel so committed," he added.

New filmmakers

'New filmmakers' is an initiative through which the winning project receives support, technical means and financial resources so that the script can materialize in a cinematographic work of professional finish.

Among its main objectives is to promote equal opportunities between women and men in film practice, particularly among emerging talents.

In this first edition, 14 projects by women filmmakers from the whole Region of Murcia have been presented.

The jury, which has also awarded mentions to the projects of María Jesús Cánovas and Irene Martínez, had experts in the field and a solid professional career, such as Esther Baeza, director of the Cartagena International Film Festival or Edi Liccioli, professor of audiovisual script in the Superior School of Dramatic Art of Murcia.

The director of the Cinema Classroom and Professor of Audiovisual Communication, José Gabriel Ferreras, highlighted the "need to promote the materialization of cinematographic works based on quality scripts made by women filmmakers from Murcia."

In addition, he stressed the importance of supporting, from the university level, cooperation and entrepreneurship in the development of these works.
