The proposal allows to solve with a unique gesture and of great simplicity the appearance of the visuals to the deposit, the natural lighting of the excavation

Last Tuesday, October 1, the jury appointed by the Ministry of Development, through the General Directorate of Architecture, Housing and Land, by unanimous decision, selected the architectural proposal that will serve as the basis for the drafting of the project: value of the Archaeological Site of the Arrabal Andalusí de la Arrixaca and the Garden of San Esteban in Murcia â€�.

The action will be carried out on the archaeological remains of the Arrabal de la Arrixaca, declared of Cultural Interest with category of Archaeological Zone.

It is intended to preserve the Archaeological Zone through a covering supported by structural elements that support the square above ground and allow the visit and visualization of the remains under it.

Above ground, the recovery of the public space of San Esteban is sought and thus be able to return to the citizens of Murcia that place that responds to the current needs of the city.

The scope of action has an area of ​​12,400 m2.

To achieve the aforementioned objectives, the Ministry of Development convened a project contest with a jury intervention last April to which a total of 35 proposals were submitted.

The jury has been composed of technicians from the Ministry of Development, the City of Murcia and the Autonomous Community, as well as Ms.

Fuensanta Nieto de la Cierva and D. Vicente Martínez Gadea, as renowned architects proposed by the Ministry of Development and the Official College of Architects of Murcia, respectively.

The works will be co-financed by the Ministry of Development, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and the City of Murcia.

Proposal for remodeling

The jury has selected the proposal submitted under the motto “HA-HA� as winner.

As indicated in its minutes, “the scheme in section of the proposal is valued.

The proposal allows to solve with a unique gesture and of great simplicity the appearance of the visuals to the deposit, the natural illumination of the excavation and the necessary free height for the level below ground level.

You get a friendly public space that in turn guarantees the value of the site �.

The winning proposal, which will be awarded with 20,000 euros, allows the Ministry to start the procedure for contracting the execution project and the optional management of the works with the winning team.

Also, the contest has a First Accésit endowed with 10,000 euros and two other Second Accésites endowed with 3,000 euros each.

In addition, two honorable mentions without financial endowment have been granted.

The jury has summoned the contestants to the opening of envelopes n ° 1 (administrative documentation) of the winning proposal and the rest of the winners on October 15 at 12:00 in the morning.
