The City Council advances in the strategic planning of the Murcia 2030 Agenda (03/10/2019)

More than 150 people, including students and professionals, have attended the Local Economies Conference this morning, organized by the City of Murcia together with the Faculty of Labor Sciences of the University of Murcia and the Observatory of Rural, Local and Employment Development .

The Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, has opened the event with an inaugural address and has closed it with the presentation on the 'Process for preparing the Murcia 2030 Agenda'.

The mayor has introduced the attendees in their background, as well as their contextualization within the framework of the 2030 Agenda in the objective (SDG) number 11 to reach 'Sustainable Cities and Communities', "pursuing them to be safe, inclusive and resilient."

Mercedes Barnabas has focused his presentation on the implementation of this process, highlighting "the importance of social cohesion, generating economic growth from common sense and being aware of our resources and respecting the environment."

The mayor has reviewed the implementation of the Urban Agenda from the international, European and Spanish framework, as well as explaining its objectives and priorities until reaching its operation at the local level.

In this sense, Barnabas has highlighted the commitment and work in the design of the urban agenda in the municipality of Murcia.

And is that the City of Murcia, along with the consistories of La Coruńa and Malaga, has been selected by the Ministry of Development as a pilot experience for its implementation.

Thus, the councilor has explained what is being developed at the municipal level, which highlights the collaboration with institutions, such as the University of Murcia, the twinning of Murcia with the city of Genoa (Italy), the realization of a socio-economic diagnosis to detect the possible threats, strengths and opportunities of the municipality, as well as the inventory of procedures, projects and documents related to the strategic planning of the municipality.

"All these documents will be collected in a single report that will be the roadmap for the next 10 years of the municipality, which will include the strategic development priorities on which we must work," said Mercedes Bernabé.

In short, experts in the field have addressed this morning at the Moneo Assembly Hall the most important aspects for the development of effective planning at the municipal level.
