The spokesman of the Municipal Socialist Group, José Antonio Serrano, applauds the jury's resolution, appointed by the Ministry of Development, through the General Directorate of Architecture, Housing and Land, which will allow further progress in the recovery and enhancement of the site San Esteban archeology.
"As we have admitted on other occasions, a socialist government has had to come to unlock and stop the abandonment of these archaeological remains, which can be one of the great revolvers of the municipality of Murcia to attract international tourism all year round," says Serrano.
The jury adopted the unanimous decision to select the architectural proposal that will serve as the basis for the drafting of the project: "Valuation of the Archaeological Site of the Arrabal Andalusí de la Arrixaca and the Garden of San Esteban in Murcia".
The objective of the selected project is to preserve the archeological zone "through a covering, supported by structural elements that support the square above ground and allow the visit and visualization of the remains under it. Above ground, the recovery of public space is sought of San Esteban and thus be able to return to the citizens of Murcia that place that responds to the current needs of the city, "according to the Ministry of Development.
To achieve the aforementioned objectives, the Ministry of Development convened a project contest with a jury intervention last April to which a total of 35 proposals were submitted.
The jury has been composed of technicians from the Ministry of Development, the City of Murcia and the Community, as well as Fuensanta Nieto de la Cierva and Vicente Martínez Gadea, as renowned architects proposed by the Ministry of Development and the Official College of Murcia Architects, respectively.
The works will be co-financed by the Ministry of Development, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and the City of Murcia.
"The proposal allows to solve with a unique gesture and of great simplicity the appearance of the visuals to the deposit, the natural illumination of the excavation and the necessary free height for the level below ground level. A friendly public space is obtained that in turn guarantees the setting the value of the deposit, "says Fomento, which also explains that the winning proposal, which will be rewarded with € 20,000, allows the Ministry to then start the procedure for contracting the project for execution and optional management of the works with the winning team.
