The City of Murcia, coordinated by the Department of Urban Agenda and Open Government directed by Mercedes Bernabé, has begun the development of the diagnosis for the Local Strategy of circular economy.
"We started with its development, as we announced last August. From now on, Murcia becomes a pioneer city in this area at the Spanish level, since the adoption of this Strategy will allow us to obtain economic, environmental and social benefits with those who face future challenges in a privileged position, "says the councilwoman.
The Circular Economy Strategy will be developed through a participatory process framed in the elaboration of the Murcia 2030 Strategy and the implementation of the 2030 Urban Agenda.
"This means carrying out a complete diagnosis of the circular economy initiatives at the local level, as well as the inflows and flows of raw materials, energy and water, urban mobility, state of natural resources, urban behaviors and level of competitiveness, "explains Mercedes Bernabé.
The work has begun with the collection and analysis of the relevant documentation, which is going to be carried out in parallel with the start of participatory processes to gather information from experts, municipal employees, social, economic and institutional agents and citizens, which will be communicated shortly together with the ways to carry out such participation.
"In this way, Murcia joins a very select group of cities that have decided to bet decisively on circular economy policies, such as Amsterdam or Paris, internationally, or Valladolid and Gijón, within the national landscape," explains the Councilor for Urban Agenda.
In short, the mayor recalls that what is intended is that "this strategy serves as the engine of the necessary change to achieve economic growth based on the conservation and protection of the environment, which contributes to the improvement of the quality of life in the cities, satisfying the present needs without compromising the future ones ".
