After heavy rains, the City Council launched the Emergency Plan against the Tiger Mosquito to minimize the proliferation of these insects.
José Ballesta visited the surroundings of the Rambla de Tabala, where fumigation works with a helicopter are being carried out today.
The Raal, Alquerías and Zeneta, as well as the environment of Segura and Reguerón, have been the main areas of action of this emergency device.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, visited today the fumigation works of the Emergency Plan against the Mosquito Tiger that are being carried out in the Rambla de Tabala, where the municipal troops are using a helicopter to access and fumigate hard to reach areas.
"The City Council activated this Emergency Plan against Mosquitoes to minimize the effects that floods and water accumulations, added to high temperatures, can have on the proliferation of these insects," said José Ballesta, who added that "El Raal, Alquerías and Zeneta, as well as the environment of Segura and Reguerón, are the main areas of action, although the municipality is acting as a whole â€.
However, it is important to remember that many of the mosquito proliferation foci are found in private areas, in the accumulations of water that are formed, for example, in particular containers, pots and yards, as well as in untreated or abandoned pools, So the collaboration of all the residents of the municipality is essential, since 80% of mosquito foci are in private areas.
In addition to the Rambla de Tabala, the troops are also checking the surroundings of El Raal and Alquerías with the helicopter.
This device, launched after heavy rains, will remain active until the end of the year.
Up to 400 liters of insecticide on each flight
In the Rambla de Tabala, the municipal troops are using a helicopter, with a capacity of 400 liters on each flight, in order to access the most difficult areas, as well as locate abandoned pools.
In this way, the troops will identify and communicate to the City Council the private areas that may be a focus of mosquito proliferation.
It is estimated that 5,000 to 10,000 liters of insecticide will be applied throughout the day.
The helicopter, equipped with fumigation means, allows access to the foci of stagnant water inaccessible through terrestrial means, such as the surroundings of the Rambla de Tabala.
Drones to locate mosquito foci
The device of the Mosquito Emergency Plan, in which 13 technicians and a veterinarian are participating, has involved the deployment of three SUVs, equipped with a powerful spray cannon and four manual cannons, in addition to 10 spraying backpacks for scuppers
In addition, three drones are being used to locate mosquito foci in hard-to-reach areas.
