Tourism and gastronomy, a key binomial for the development of the Region of Murcia (26/09/2019)

It has been one of the conclusions that have been exposed in a meeting held by the UCAM on the occasion of World Tourism Day, where Esther Tenza, general director of Competitiveness and Tourism Quality of the Region of Murcia and Nick Montgomery, director of La Manga Club

"We need to put on the national scene a dish that identifies us as a Region," said the Director General of Competitiveness and Tourism Quality of the Region of Murcia, showing that tourism and gastronomy are key in the development of the Region of Murcia, in the event organized today by the Degree in Tourism of the Catholic University of Murcia.

The meeting is part of the World Tourism Day, which is celebrated tomorrow, September 27, under the motto 'Tourism and employment: a better future for all'.

The event has brought together students of the Degree in Tourism and the Degree in Gastronomy, professors and professionals of the tourism sector such as Esther Tenza, general director of Competitiveness and Tourism Quality of the Region of Murcia, and Nick Montgomery, director of La Manga Club.

In the meeting, topics such as the future of the tourism sector and employment have been discussed.

Esther Tenza, general director of Competitiveness and Tourism Quality of the Region of Murcia has stated that, "the Region of Murcia has registered the best data in July and August in terms of tourism growth and hotel occupancy", also highlights that the event occurred at UCAM, it seems very suitable for both the Degree in Tourism and Gastronomy.

It should be noted that UCAM offers from this course the possibility of obtaining the double degree of Tourism plus Gastronomy in a duration of only four years.

On the importance of student training, Nick Montgomery, director of La Manga Club has explained that they are the base of the industry and that thanks to UCAM the sector is growing in the Region.

Ginesa Martínez Del Vas, vice-dean of the Degree in Tourism, declares that the main objective of this meeting is for the Catholic University to join the celebration of World Tourism Day, "UCAM is an affiliated member of the World Tourism Organization (OTM ) for more than ten years and this year under the slogan 'Tourism and employment: a better future for all, we want to emphasize that there can only be development, sustainability and tourism growth through good employment and talent management. "
