Representatives of six NGOs will be elected this afternoon to join the Council for Cooperation and Solidarity (25/09/2019)

The new Municipal Council for Cooperation and Solidarity, which will be formally constituted on October 11, will elect this afternoon, at 6:00 p.m., in the Assembly Hall of the Moneo building, the representatives of the six NGOs that will be part of this organ during the next year.

These representatives will be chosen among those Non-Governmental Organizations for Development that, in compliance with the requirements established in the bylaws of the Council, are interested and attend the appointment this afternoon.

A table will be set up where the councilor for the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui Pérez, the service chief of the Development Cooperation area and three representatives of the organizations or associations attending will act as president.

The elected NGOs, whose representation will be annual, will participate so much in the ordinary meetings, which will be held every six months;

as extraordinary, when convened by the president of the Council or requested by a third of its members.

Functions

Its functions include advising the City Council and collaborating with it in matters of cooperation and solidarity, proposing to the Consistory the adoption of measures for the fulfillment of the budget items destined for this purpose, as well as their distribution, and knowing the projects presented and the bases of the calls for grants made annually.

Likewise, they must propose actions in favor of the dissemination of the values ​​of peace, tolerance, solidarity and non-violent conflict resolution and channel citizens' participation in the face of catastrophes, unforeseen events and emergency situations, through of a fund created for this purpose, among other functions.

Members

In addition to these six NGOs, the Council will be made up of the Councilor for Seniors, Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui Pérez, who will serve as president;

a councilor of each municipal group, five members appointed by the Local Government Board, two persons of recognized prestige and dedication to the tasks related to the purposes of this body and a secretary.
