Murcia will be the national capital of letters in October with the Book Fair (25/09/2019)

Presentation of the program of the Book Fair, which is expected to spend more than 55,000 visitors.

The program covers almost thirty cultural events, including exhibitions, recitals, book presentations, colloquiums, round tables and workshops for the whole family.

Most sign language interpreters will participate.

The Fair will have more than 40 booths and will have an economic impact of 250,000 euros for the city of Murcia.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, presented today the program of the Book Fair, which this year arrives loaded with exhibitions, recitals, colloquiums, round tables, concerts and workshops for the whole family, combining letters and music for five days , from October 2 to 6.

"Murcia will become the national capital of letters in October at the Book Fair, which will be visited by more than 500 authors from different European countries and Latin America," said the mayor, adding that "the Fair will host this year to more than 55,000 visitors and will have an economic impact for the city of Murcia of 250,000 euros ”.

The event was also attended by the Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, the General Director of Cultural Assets, Rafael Gómez, the Coordinator of Publications and Digital Heritage of the University of Murcia, Rosana López, the president of the CajaMurcia Foundation, Pascual Martínez, the president of the Friends of Reading Foundation, Encarnación Martínez, and the president of the Palin association, Asensio Piqueras.

During the act a poetic recital and a musical show was performed.

The Fair has been organized by the City of Murcia, in collaboration with the Palin association and the Ministry of Education and Culture.

During the presentation, a poetic recital was performed by the Murcia author Charo Guarino, Book Murciano Award 2017, as well as a musical show by Acacia Rico Valero.

Five days of music and literature

The Fair will feature a total of 43 booths, 38 exhibitors from all over Spain, almost thirty cultural events and more than 20 book presentations, as well as musical events.

Most events will feature sign language interpreters.

Specifically, the booths will open to the public on October 2, at 10:30 a.m., on the Alfonso X promenade. At 6 p.m., the official announcement will be held, by Emilio Soler Poveda, known as' El Cork '.

On the same day there will also be a round table on the current state of cinema in the Region, at 7:30 pm, at the Paco Rabal Film Library, as well as the screening of the film 'I will survive', at 10 pm.

The Artistic Laboratory of Carmen (LAC), Archaeological Museum of Murcia, Assembly Hall of Las Claras, Caja Murcia Foundation, University of Murcia and Plaza Julián Romea are some of the scenarios in which the activities will take place.

More than 15,000 books sold

During the Book Fair it is estimated that about 15,000 books will be sold and that more than 600 children will participate in literary activities and booths.

In 2018, more than 35,000 people visited the Book Fair, in which 28 exhibitors participated.

Braille, the leading language in the Book Fair

This year, the ONCE will have a booth in this great Fair, which will house books, stories with textures, maps, pictures, games, computer with adaptations, as well as different reading modes.

On Thursday, October 3, at 11 am, the round table 'Other ways of reading' will be held, at the Archaeological Museum, whose central theme will be the access of blind people to information, in which a typhotech instructor will participate - material expert for the blind and visually impaired - and a Braille specialist.

Five reading scenarios

For the first time, the Fair will have five reading points, which will be distributed along the promenade of Alfonso X (two armchairs, a sofa, a bed, a bathroom and a bank), inviting pedestrians to read and discuss reading while discovering the activities of the Fair.

Percussion and piano in Romea Square

Also, another of the events featured in this Fair is the concert that will take place on Saturday, October 5, in which five grand pianos and percussion instruments will sound, bringing music and art closer to society.

Romea Square will host this event, at 9 pm.

'Printed dialogues' until October 31

Although the booths will remain open for five days, from October 2 to 6, Murcia will host the exhibition 'Printed dialogues', with paintings, sculptures and photographs, until October 31.

The exhibition, in which 30 artists of recognized prestige have participated, will open on Tuesday 1, at the Artistic Laboratory of Carmen (LAC), at 20 hours.
