Around 400 people participated in the bicifestation organized by Murcia in Bici during its XIII week of the bike (24/09/2019)

At the end of the tour the association read a manifesto, asking the City Council for urgently adopting measures to promote sustainable mobility and the convening of the Bike Observatory, as well as lamented the low interest of the Department of Sustainable Mobility in the European Week of the Mobility.

It has been a week full of activities organized by the Murcia en Bici association that, in the framework of the European Mobility Week, has celebrated its XIII Bike Week under the motto "for health and safety, walk, skate and pedal ", which refers to the fact that" on the average that space is generated for means of displacement with human traction, our city becomes safer and healthier. "

The XIII Bike Week ended in a big bicifestation on Sunday morning, September 22, World Day without cars, supported by more than 20 groups and in which about 400 people participated.

Before starting the tour, the association presented its usual awards to people and institutions of the municipality.

Only one was left without picking up, the prick prize, which went to the former Councilor for Traffic of the City of Murcia, Doña María Dolores Sánchez, for his negligence in the case of the fine unfairly placed on Lorena Laos, who circulated with her son with a cycle approved by the EU.

The bicifestation route highlighted the need to create more spaces in the city with restrictions on private motor vehicles and segregated bike lanes that connect with districts.

In this sense, the association recalls that of what was announced in the 2017 2019 Bicycle Action Plan, only half of the segregated bike lanes have been executed, with the Barrio del Carmen bike lane being stand-by, and the European financing;

A Mobility Ordinance that was announced in December last year has not been developed and the application of anti-pollution measures is practically non-existent.

The Bicifestation ended at the Alfonso X El Sabio promenade, where the exhibition of the photographic contest organized by Murcia by Bike and the activities prepared by the Extinction Rebellion, Mothers for Climate and Zero Waste collectives could be seen.

Murcia by Bike positively values the response of citizens to the activities carried out, but not that of the municipal Consistory, whose involvement has been limited and its communication, diffuse and contradictory.

The entity states that after receiving the announcement from the Municipal Bicycle Office of the Gran Vía court to match the end of the bicifestation with the activities planned by the City Council for the European Mobility Week, days later announced the suspension of said activities and disregarded the cut of Gran Vía, which is why the bicifestation finally ended in Alfonso X El Sabio.

On the other hand, the association launched an invitation to the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility, Mrs. Rebeca Pérez López, to participate in the debate on the documentary "On Wheels: The Car Dream", which she screened at the Regional Film Library last Thursday, September 19 , which was rejected.

Finally, Murcia in Bici also did not receive an answer to its proposal to carry out a bicycle driving workshop.

Given this situation, Murcia en Bici asks the City Council for the urgent call of the Bike Observatory, which has not been meeting since December last year, as well as awaits clarifications about the obvious deficiencies in coordination and communication and the lack of interest that has been demonstrated the session during the European Mobility Week.
