The PSOE recognizes the work of the mayors and former pediatric mayors for their "enormous effort and willingness" during the DANA (18/09/2019)

Councilwoman Ainhoa Sánchez affirms that "they have had to deal with many complaints and discontent, in addition to moments of trouble, hence our gratitude and also our demand, once again, that the municipal boards must now be constituted, without further delay"

The Socialist Municipal Group has been in contact with all the mayors and former pediatric mayors of the PSOE during the days of torrential rains by the cold drop or DANA, which have left streets, orchards, businesses, houses and flooded garages, dead animals and lost crops .

Therefore, "knowing that they have been at the foot of the canyon, not only trying to find solutions to the emergency but also supporting their neighbors and even shrinking water, we want to recognize their enormous effort and disposition because many of these people, predictably, will not repeat as pedneo and, nevertheless, they have not avoided responsibilities since they have not been substituted either, "affirms the councilwoman Ainhoa Sánchez.

"We are aware that they have been very lonely and overwhelmed but still have been waiting to solve the most urgent all the time," said the mayor, who also warns that "it is time to take stock and correct deficiencies to avoid repeating mistakes and minimize the consequences of the cold drop as much as possible. "

The councilor points out that the mayors and former mayors "have had to deal with many complaints and dissatisfaction, in addition to many moments of trouble, hence our recognition and, also, our demand, once again, that the municipal boards must now be constituted , without further delay, so that the neighbors of the districts know at all times who they have to go to, especially because although the rains have stopped there is still a long way to go. "

Ainhoa Sánchez points out that already in the previous phase, when alerts were published for the arrival of the DANA, the pediatric mayors have not had information about the risks that their neighbors were running, or what were the measures to be taken or the direct telephone numbers to solve urgent problems that could arise from the red alert situation.

For example, the pediatric mayor of Los Ramos, Marina Navarro, says that "the feeling I had was of helplessness, since I had no idea who I had to get in touch with in such a complicated situation," while José Francisco Navarro, pediatric mayor of Javalí Viejo, says that "I called with enough time to the councilor of Pedanías and the councilor of Development to remove a berth and it was the neighbors who were in charge in the end. There was more than enough time to contact us and give instructions, but we don't even receive a message. "

Likewise, Ainhoa Sánchez points out that pediatric mayors do not currently have the possibility of using money from municipal boards, so they do not have the possibility of using external suppliers and contractors, they need the approval of the councilor responsible for Pedanías or that any action should be coordinated from the Department itself.

In this sense, he points out that, for example, gravel trucks have been needed these days to alleviate suburbs and will be paid with the money that the neighbors themselves are raising. "

Likewise, some of these mayors and former mayors explain that "we were unaware of the risks we were running and what we should transmit to the neighbors, for them we are the only reference to the lack of a designated mayor" and, also, they say that some of they made themselves available to the government councilor for whatever they needed, provided information on flood risk areas "and in the end nothing could be done because it was already too late."

Another of the obstacles that have been found is "the lack of coordination between councilors of the City Council, which has been clear, since there were backhoes sent by the Department of Pedanías but the cleaning services were unaware of their existence. Usually in these cases this service calls pediatric mayors. "

For all these reasons, the socialist councilor, who "affirms that more has been achieved with solidarity between neighbors than with the help of the City Council itself," insists on the constitution of the municipal councils as soon as possible because the pediatric mayors are the direct interlocutor with the citizens.
