The City Council works on the evacuation of residents from the risk areas of Alquerías, El Raal, Santa Cruz and Zeneta (12/09/2019)

José Ballesta reported that work has already begun for the evacuation of families whose homes are located in risk areas.

More than 1,000 troops are working in coordination, among Firefighters of Murcia, Local Police, Civil Protection, Aguas de Murcia, lighting, cleaning, urban planning, the Mobile Emergency Service and Social Care (SEMAS), as well as parks and gardens.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, convened again this afternoon the Crisis Cabinet before the red alert declared by the AEMET and reported that “we have started the work for the evacuation of families whose homes are in risk areas of the districts of Alquerías, El Raal, Santa Cruz and Zeneta â€.

José Ballesta, together with members of the Government team and municipal operators, went tonight to the affected towns to check 'in situ' the evacuation works and the situation of the different risk areas.

“Before the warning of the flood of the river that we have received from the Hydrographic Confederation of the Segura and the regional Government, the families whose homes are in the areas where the flood of the river is expected to be greater and there is a risk of overflow, â€said the mayor.

José Ballesta reported that “for all those people the El Esparragal pavilion has been enabled, as well as the Cagigal pavilion,†and said that “throughout this afternoon, there have been no significant incidents, not even for human beings. nor for the infrastructures, except for some fall of jugs and cornices â€.

The City Council remains on alert, with a special device consisting of more than 1,000 troops that will work throughout the night, between Murcia Firefighters, Local Police, Civil Protection, Aguas de Murcia, lighting, cleaning, urban planning, the Mobile Emergency and Social Assistance Service (SEMAS), as well as parks and gardens.

Regarding the forecasts, the red alert continues until 6 in the morning;

there will be orange alert from 6 in the morning until 12 in the morning and yellow alert from 12 in the morning to 12 at night tomorrow, Friday.

Likewise, the AEMET foresees that from 19:00 today until 4.00 the municipality will register heavy rains, with an amount of water of up to 93 liters per square meter.

Management of incidents

- Parks and Gardens (250 operators)

- Public lighting (14 operators)

- Aguas de Murcia (98 operators)

- Social Services and Volunteering (24 volunteers

Classes remain suspended and river accesses closed

At the moment the accesses to the river are still closed - stairs, ramps -, the parks with risk of falling of branches and the classes remain suspended in the educative centers of Infantile, Primary, Secondary and the two Universities.

The nursery schools and the day and conciliation centers have also been closed.

Likewise, the closure of the La Fica and Huertos del Malecón grounds has been ordered, and the Lemon Pop Festival, the Young Orchards and the Juan Magán concert, activities of the Murcia Fair that were planned for tomorrow, are suspended.

For its part, the Federation of Moors and Christians will decide tomorrow if they continue or cancel their planned acts.
