Closed the accesses of the urban section of the river (12/09/2019)

The special device launched by the City of Murcia on the occasion of the red level warning has continued to work all morning to minimize the incidents caused by the rains.

The Local Police has closed the access to the urban section of the river since the Segura Hydrographic Confederation has informed the City Council of the opening of floodgates which will mean a flood of the river.

In addition, residents of districts are recommended to stay away from river banks and be cautious.

According to the rain gauges, where more water has been collected this morning has been in El Raal with 65 liters per square meter, followed by Nueva Condomina (53) and Los Ramos (42).

Thus, the most relevant services performed during the morning have been the following:

- Assistance to a driver trapped in the Beniaján tunnel for not respecting the traffic cut signal

- Firefighters put out a fire on an electric pole in Era Alta

- Withdrawal of water at the pedestrian crossing on Senda de Enmedio street

- Fall of cornice in Rincón de Beniscornia

It must be remembered that the City Council has deployed all the municipal forces and services in a device made up of more than 1,000 troops coordinated between Firefighters of Murcia, Local Police, Civil Protection, Aguas de Murcia, lighting, cleaning, urban planning, the Mobile Emergency and Social Assistance Service (SEMAS), as well as parks and gardens.

The most critical moment will be between 1 and 2 in the morning from Thursday to Friday, according to the AEMET predictions, when 67l / m2 will be recorded.

The City Council recommends that while the alert remains activated do not use private vehicles, do not cross the waterways or streets with water, respect the cut points and do not park vehicles in flood areas

The City Council of Murcia has enabled places in residences for people who are in a situation of special vulnerability "and exceptionally the Cagigal Pavilion, guaranteeing a safe refuge from any risk situation".

On the occasion of the Fair, outdoor events and events have been suspended or postponed while the red alert is prolonged.

The accesses to the river have already been closed - stairs, ramps -, the parks with risk of falling branches and classes remain suspended in the educational centers of children, primary, secondary and the two Universities.

The nursery schools and the day and conciliation centers have also been closed.

The City Council has also given a specific notice to avoid parking on promenades and risky streets.

The Civil Protection service and the Operational Groups of Volunteers of Murcia and Pedanías are on alert, located and with monitoring of the meteorological phenomenon, according to AEMET.

The operation is made up of a total of 24 volunteers, of which 12 will be for districts and 12 for the city.

As for firefighters, there will be a total of 55 who are on duty after the activation of the alert due to heavy rains.

They will be in charge of draining the water, putting out fires in power lines and draining flooded lows, as well as rescuing people and drivers trapped in flooded areas, if necessary.

The work team that will have Aguas de Murcia to face the possible incidents arising from the expected rainfall will be a total of 98 people.

It will also have a deployment of special means available to the emergency, such as specialized vehicles, electric trucks, generator sets of different powers and portable pumping group for bilges, among others.

The maintenance service of Public Lighting will be reinforcing with the performance of 4 work teams equipped with truck with lifting platform, crane truck and assistance of 1 manager.

For its part, Parks and Gardens has carried out the review of its scuppers in the more than one thousand green areas of the municipality of Murcia.

For this special device it will have 70 workers, including municipal and STV dealership, as well as specialized vehicles.

The Traffic service carries out a follow-up from the Traffic room, giving the appropriate instructions to the agents of the Local Police about possible problems that may alter the pace of the drivers.

The Mobile Emergency and Social Assistance Service (SEMAS) will also be on alert to meet the basic needs of people who need it, for whom places in residences have been enabled, as noted above.

The Road Cleaning Service has modified its work program by activating personnel for the heavy rain episode.

Thus, approximately 70 people will be responsible for cleaning these days, as well as 42 for districts.

To this personnel we must add the machinery and extraordinary means if the circumstance requires it.

In total, the Cleaning Service has 277 pawns, 19 drivers and 104 specialist pawns for cleaning and dragging.
