Activated the special heavy rain device for this Wednesday and Thursday (10/09/2019)

The City Council prepares its various municipal services after the yellow and orange alert notice for the arrival of a new front, known as the DANA.

It will be informed through the social networks of the City Council about the possible modifications that affect the programming of the Murcia Fair.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, reported today that the City Council has prepared a special device in anticipation of heavy rains and storms from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) for the next few days.

This special device is made up of different municipal services such as Local Police, Civil Protection, Firefighters, Traffic, Murcia Water, Street Cleaning, Public Lighting and Parks and Gardens, as well as the Mobile Emergency Service and Social Care (SEMAS)

According to the AEMET, this Wednesday they could reach 15 liters per square meter in one hour (yellow level warning) and that on Thursday they can reach 40 liters in one hour and 100 in 12 hours (orange level warning).

This is a new episode of cold drop known as the DANA (Isolated Depression in High Levels).

In this way the special Local Police device for monitoring and control of the flood areas of the municipality that will be operational during these weather conditions is activated.

The operational units of the city and districts will periodically review, in accordance with the progress of rainfall, all those places where there are risks due to accumulations of water or cuts of roads and streets due to the existence of waterways or natural rainwater passages.

What is intended with this plan is to intervene as quickly as possible and respond immediately to the requirements of the residents of the municipality to minimize the effects of possible heavy rains, establishing priority actions.

The Local Police will deploy their troops in urban areas and districts to take the necessary measures to regulate and cut traffic, using fences and police tape.

Likewise, it is controlled that there are no incidents that endanger people and vehicles.

Firefighters will be responsible for draining the water, putting out fires in power lines and draining flooded lows, as well as rescuing people and drivers trapped in flooded areas, if necessary.

Civil Protection volunteers will form a checkpoint to collaborate with Local Police and Firefighters in those situations that are necessary.

On the other hand, the Cleaning Services will work on the elimination of water bags and puddles by means of vacuum machinery, placement of the displaced containers and cleaning of the drag caused by the rain.

The operators of the Parks and Gardens Service are reviewing the large woodland in those sensitive areas to anticipate possible branch falls and cleaned the leaves and scuppers located in the gardens.

In addition, sand collection has been done as an initial shock measure to avoid flooding in case of flooding.

The municipal company Aguas de Murcia has also carried out the scheduled cleaning of 1,800 scuppers located in the urban area of ​​Murcia and districts, specifically at critical points associated with flood zones in order to guarantee the correct evacuation of rainwater.

These tasks have increased these days due to the alert issued by the AEMET.

The Mobile Emergency and Social Assistance Service (SEMAS) will be on alert to meet the basic needs of people who need it.
