Open to the traffic of residents the section of Levante of Phase II of the Alfonso X el Sabio Avenue (09/09/2019)

This morning, Phase II of Alfonso X el Sabio Avenue, the side where the National Social Security Institute is located, has been opened to residents for residents living in buildings from number 10 to 16.

Currently, work is being done on the pavement placement of the section between the Government Delegation and the public car park, and the section between the car park and the Circular Plaza is being demolished.

The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has indicated that "the work is carried out as planned, which will allow us to enjoy a completely peatobnalized avenue in November."

These works will suppose a reduction of 95% of the traffic with respect to the one that circulated before the work, gaining 15,000m2 of healthy surface.

When the paving is completed, 85 planters will be installed, new low-consumption LED luminaires, litter bins, benches and underground containers.

The crossing of Jaime I will be maintained for motor vehicles.

This new avenue is the first of the municipality of Murcia, both its project and the companies that carry out the works, materials, furniture and vegetation.

The City Council put into service this past July the 3,400 m2 corresponding to the west axis of Phase II, which included the installation of 29 lampposts, 37 orange trees and 10 paper mills.

The pedestrianization of healthy axes in urban environments is one of the measures included in the municipal strategy 'Clean Air', aimed at reducing pollution and effects of climate change through various fronts of action such as the commitment to clean means in the services of public transport and road cleaning, the Electric Vehicle and Bicycle Strategy, free alternative services to agricultural burns and the promotion of our green areas, such as the 2030 Forest Plan.

This Phase II covers an area of 8,217 m2 and 200 m in length, and involves the complete renovation of the pavement and the creation of a modern and uniform urban treatment space, completing the most important pedestrian itinerary in the city;

a reference axis that runs from the river and La Glorieta, Plaza Belluga, Trapería, Santo Domingo and Alfonso X to La Circular;

covering an area of 50,000 m2 (equivalent to 5 soccer fields).

This work has a budget of 2 million euros and an execution period of 8 months (started on March 6).

The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union, within the framework of the 2014-2020 Sustainable Growth Operational Program, with the DUSI Murcia IT Strategy: Innovation + Tradition.
