The University of Murcia is integrated into the Spanish Sustainable Development Network (27/06/2019)

The University of Murcia has been integrated into the Spanish Sustainable Development Network (REDS) as a result of its collaboration with the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) in its common commitment to knowledge as a basis for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the 2030 Agenda.

In this way, the University of Murcia becomes a member of a wide communication network between different agents who work and research in different areas of the SDGs.

This week the UMU has participated for the first time as a member of REDS in its general assembly, chaired by Leire Pajín.

In it, Longinos Marín, Vice Rector of Social Responsibility and Transparency, explained to the rest of the participants the ODSesiones project that the UMU began last February.

The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) was founded in 2012 by the then Secretary General of the United Nations Organization Ban Ki-Moon.

The majority of the members belong to the academic and research field.

A very interesting aspect of SDSN is its division by regional and national networks, so that the projects that arise from these alliances prioritize the needs of each area.

At the moment, the University of Murcia is present, in addition to SDSN Global and REDS, in the network corresponding to the Mediterranean countries.

There are also some thematic networks;

among which the UMU participates in one that explores the presence of the SDGs in universities.
