The University of Murcia bets on aid for study and support for research in participatory budgeting (19/06/2019)

The University of Murcia has completed the process of public consultation so that students, teaching and research staff (PDI) and administration and services staff (PAS) could vote on participatory budgets for the year 2019. Through a survey and under the principle of one person a vote, the members of the university community have opted to allocate the 150,000 euros available to eight projects out of twenty possible.

Specifically, the chosen projects have been:

Study grants (social scholarships): 41,020 euros for aid for students who, due to special or unexpected circumstances, do not have a scholarship.

Research support: 38,984 euros for complementary aid to research and research infrastructures.

Inclusive university: 21,442 euros allocated to aid to encourage the inclusion of members of the university community with a high degree of disability and reduction of architectural barriers (construction and installation of ramps, stair climbing platforms for access with wheelchairs, elevators, etc.) .

Aid for international and national mobility: 16,778 euros to reinforce with members' own aid the members of the university community in international and national mobility (Erasmus, ILA, ISEP, etc.).

Sports and leisure activities: 11,903 euros for sports activities aimed at the entire university community and their families.

Bibliographic funds: 8,192 euros to increase the acquisition of funds.

Cultural activities: 7,261 euros to support the cultural offer of the University of Murcia.

Dining grants: 4,420 euros for breakfast and lunch vouchers in cafeterias or cafeterias on campus for university students.

With this new edition of participatory budgets, the University of Murcia has wanted to favor participatory democracy giving the word to the entire university community to decide the fate of part of their budget.

The results of this consultation, which have doubled the participation of the previous year, show the willingness of the university community to feel involved in the distribution of the institution's funds.
