Climate change to debate in the cinefórum of the University of Murcia (17/06/2019)

On June 18, at 6 pm, at the Fiction Café in the center of Murcia, the last CineFórum of the course promoted by the Unit of Scientific Culture and Innovation of the University of Murcia (UCC + I of the UMU).

Through the screening of the documentary 'Mañana', UMU researcher and professor of the UMU José Antonio García Charton and the researcher and head of the LIFE AMDRYC4 project of the UMU, María José Martínez Sánchez, will raise a debate on climate change .

'Tomorrow' is a French documentary that talks about climate change from a positive and activist perspective, since it tells the real story of people who are carrying out initiatives to solve the main ecological problems around the world.

García Charton, PhD in Biology and coordinator of the UMU Marine Ecology and Conservation Research Group, is the author of more than one hundred scientific publications on the ecology and conservation of marine organisms.

The LIFE AMDRYC4 project seeks to promote and promote resilience to rainfed agriculture climate in Mediterranean areas and its sustainable, intelligent and integrated management, as a basic tool for adaptation to climate change based on ecosystems (EbA);

as well as strengthen its mitigating function as carbon sinks, so that they are sustainable and persistent.

Citizen movements in Murcia

Currently in the Region of Murcia, as will be shown in the documentary, actions aimed at alleviating the effects of climate change promoted by young people are being carried out, but above all, those that pretend to catch the attention of politicians before this global problem.

An example of this is the project launched by a group of young people together with the student movement who have joined the international call of Fridays For Future, an initiative to fight for the climate initiated by the activist Greta Thunberg in Sweden.

However, one of the impulses in favor of the environment and that most calls attention in Murcia, is that of Pack the Wrap, an idea that emerged from a group of International Baccalaureate students of the Alfonso X Institute. For a few months, apart from joining the calls for mobilizations, they are dedicated to collecting garbage in different parts of the city with the aim of "being part of the global change", according to their instagram account, where they report everything.
